About Me:
Live in 'downeast' Maine, up past Acadia Natl Park on the coast. Widower with wonderful gf. Three dogs. Former banker, but now wonder what the hell I was doing. Have a good life. Beautiful place to live. Have lots of friends. Outdoor walking here is insanely pretty. Feel relatively 'mindful', trying to learn piano (long long way to go but I like it), Love my dogs. Did I mention dogs already? They keep me alive in a thousand ways. I keep track of my health (MyFitnessPal is a great partner). I have about a 50 year long 7 year cycle of adding and subtracting about 25 pounds.
Why I want to get in shape:
Pretty obvious - like, "Why do you want to eat?" I want to be healthy. Okay, sure, I'd love a sixpack. I'm happy if I can still fit into my old banker suits (which thankfully I can although I don't need them anymore). I want to look like I care. I want to be spry and alive, active and engaged - traits I admire in others. I want to be attractive to my gf, and not come across as a slob who eats like shit and has one foot dangling over the grave. I'm nearing 70 for god's sake and I want to live with as much quality as I can, knowing full well I'm going to go down hill. Is the key is to age slowly? My wife of 44 years died at 61 - the healthiest (we all thought) person I knew - same weight as in college, ate organic, exercised, good healthy mind. Longevity is promised to no-one. I want high quality to the end, or to put it in mathematical terms, I want to maximize the area under my quality curve (quality over time/age).
My Inspirations
- Be healthy in body and mind (they're wedded)
- Get older slower
- Maximize area under the quality curve
