To a New Year Full of Wonderful Mistakes!

“I hope that in this year to come, you make mistakes. Because if you are making mistakes, then you are making new things, trying new things, learning, living, pushing yourself, changing yourself, changing your world. You're doing things you've never done before, and more importantly, you're Doing Something.

So that's my wish for you, and all of us, and my wish for myself. Make New Mistakes. Make glorious, amazing mistakes. Make mistakes nobody's ever made before. Don't freeze, don't stop, don't worry that it isn't good enough, or it isn't perfect, whatever it is: art, or love, or work or family or life.

Whatever it is you're scared of doing, Do it. Make your mistakes, next year and forever.”

― Neil Gaiman

Happy New Year to all of us, may it be a year full of kindness, joy, and laughter. May we all triumphantly march toward a healthier future and give our best -most of the time.

May we all be in peace with our past and enjoy the present without too much worry about the future. Let's be grateful for the past years -good or bad- they brought us where we are today.

This is our story, we are the producer, we are the star who will shine -if we let it.

Perhaps we can set our goals a bit out of reach, to push us further and maybe we can celebrate our accomplishments -big and small- with the same joy and pride -and with the innocence of a young child.

And, most importantly, may we live our lives without regret and guilt. Let us enjoy some cheese with our WHINE and chocolates and sparkling bubbles on special occasions.

If we believe in ourselves, we can surely move mountains and make our dreams come true. Even an anthill is a mountain, it's all about perspective.

May all the new MFP'lers, who will sign up this week, have as much fun as I have here on my way to a healthier and slimmer version of the old ME.

Yes, let's make beautiful, wonderful mistakes. I am all for it and I am good at it!

122 lbs lost - Only 18 pounds to goal #1

Sometimes rock bottom is a good place to start from -there is nothing left then UP. I  know, because that's where I started two years ago.

Well said, all journeys begin with a first step, and all journeys will have a few potholes or detours along the way. The fear of failure should never keep you from taking that first step, nor should you hesitate to start for fear of failure or of the unknowns which lay ahead. As we came to the end of 2018 and I look back it is so amazing how far I've come in the last 397 day(when I first began). Having been struck at 30 lbs from my final goal for 2 months I can not and will not give up....when I look and see how you are closing in on that last 18 lbs I can't help but be inspired by your progress as well as my own. Bottom line I took that first step 397 days ago and yes there have been some bumps in the road but they are so worth it. Thanks for keeping it real along the way.

I actually was thinking about this when I was reflecting on 2018. I had gotten off track and gained 15 pounds, went back into the 200s (well into the 200s) and even got off track with exercising. I finally got back on track in the fall. I have learned so much this fall and I really feel this time will be different. I feel like I am actually learning how to eat, not just stressing and avoiding food. Nothing like learning how to eat when your 52...I was thinking the other day about maybe I wouldn't be where I am now if I didn't go off track. I don't know if I would have went down this path and learned what I have. Believe me the weight isn't falling off but the scale is moving in the right direction. So yes-making mistakes isn't a bad thing at all! Wishing you and your family a happy healthy New Year!
I also have to mention-your wedding blog helped push me back on track! I had one 3/18 which I was mortified how I looked in the pictures (and I was 10 pounds lighter than I am now!) I have my son's wedding in 11/19 and I am hoping that I will have a similar experience that you had.

Thanks my S.P. I really needed this! Today is a brand new start (once again). I'm always here. I never give up. I just start over again from where I left off. Happy New Year to you!

I just saw that Neil Gaiman quote on Facebook - love it so much! Here's to a new year - full of challenges to overcome and goals to achieve. I'm back to logging my food today!

I was thinking along these lines myself. There is no such thing as failure. We just succeed in finding more ways that don't work for us. Eventually we hit the mother lode.

Thanks I really needed to hear such positive and encouraging comments. As a wife and a mom of two it is sometimes hard to get moments where you can pay attention to yourself. I plan to set a side more time for myself this year

Terri Richardson112, that's the best quote I heard all year: "There is no such thing as failure. We just succeed in finding more ways that don't work for us." I have the greatest collection of weight loss advice that doesn't work for me!! 😆
And thank you, Bridget - as always, great writing. Much success (and patience) for the last 18. We are cheering you on!
