I joined MFP at suggestion of my dietician. I am paralysed from waist down (Spina Bifida) and a type 2 diabetic.I also had stage 3 hypertension but no longer hypertensive (Since joining MFP) I am in the Class 1 obese BMI range (I hate that word).MFP has helped me eat better, eat less processed foods and also, radically reduce my weight. I did pretty well, in the first 6 months on my own, but MFP helped identify areas I could do better on (Less Fats, Sugars, more protein). Sugar consumption now dropped from a high of 90g a day to 24g. Fats dropped from a similar amount.(I was STUNNED to see just how much sugar was in a Milkshake from McDonald's. That alone could have bought on diabetes) Protein now much higher than it was was and weight now dropping well, and consistently again.
Why I Want To Get In Shape
My original reason, having diabetes, high blood pressure, hypertension, liver problems and a whole host of other ailments was because I didn't want to die. Now, it's because I enjoy FEELING fitter.I enjoy reducing medication as my health is improving. I believe I can feel better, and reduce meds further, by getting fitter still. I have massive aspirations and know that they will take time to achieve, but confident I can get there.
- Making a difference, even small ones.
- Becoming more independent from better health.
