It would be nice to be able to type in a UPC from the search bar to add food to your log.

I just tried that exact thing, hoping it would work. Would be faster than searching and identifying the correct entry from the search hits.

by using a smart-phone that has the feature built into the MFP app... iPhone, iPad or Android (NOTE only those devices with a REAR facing camera will work to scan a barcode)

The problem with this idea, UPC's are not standardized world-wide. A UPC in one part of the world can be a completely different product somewhere else. Plus, companies have a weird habit of changing their UPC codes for products.

That's why scanning bar codes with the smart phone app is never 100% accurate.

It would be very helpful ... especially for those without smartphones, or using the website.

True, I have found that scanning barcodes here in Singapore. However, it would be nice to have the option and if it doesn't scan correctly to go from there. It would save a lot of time when it works and it would likely work more often than not.

+1 for this request. It doesn't matter if there are different UPC systems. Website users will have the same functionality as app users and reduce the chances of seeing incorrect results. When I can't scan a UPC, it would be much faster to type the UPC in than to type a name and wade through all the incorrect entries added.
