Have you seen the new flex that you where on your wrist? I am just curious how it is going to work to track steps and movement if you are wearing it on your wrist. I mean what if you are sitting in meetings for hours but you are a hand talker or typing and writing a lot. Just curious if any fitbit experts have heard how it will know the difference between hand gestures and actual steps.

My daughter has requested one for her birthday. I have the fitbit one but I think I would like the flex better. I am afraid to wear it on my pants because I may knock it off and lose it , so I clip it to my bra but it shows under my sweaters. You do ask a good question. I hadn't thought about it picking up arm and hand movement.

I was wondering the same thing! I have the Zip and I absolutely love it! The only time it is visible is when I am wearing a sports bra. When I am just at work in my normal clothes and bra, you can't even tell I'm wearing it. I am pretty curious about the Flex and have been debating if I want to give my Zip to my hubby and order myself a Flex, but I'm just worried about how well it can count steps attached to your wrist and if other movements could set it off.

I will try to email fitbit about it and see if they respond. I will ask about the hand movement vs steps. If it can tell the difference then it will be pretty smart. LOL!

I asked:

Original message
How is the flex going to know the difference between steps taken and hand gestures like when you talk with your hand or type or move your mouse. How will it know?

Here is the answer I got from Fitbit.

Hello,

We have assessed the accuracy of Fitbit Flex based on best-in-class wireless tracking devices and confirmed that Flex is a highly accurate product.

Wrist-based Fitbit trackers like Flex will be as accurate as our clip-based devices. Fitbit devices are designed specifically for step-based activity like walking or running, though they will still give you credit for other fitness activities that fit into your lifestyle such as yoga or biking so you can get a full picture of your overall health.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Sincerely,
Ellen and the Fitbit Team

What about wearing on an ankle? Seems that would be great for counting steps and no worries about hand motions.

I cancelled my fitbit one order and was going to wait for the flex, then I went on youtube and did some research. It doesnt have the accelerometer like the ONE so its basically a pedometer and it has no display so I decided on the ONE. The flex has a little dongle thing which you slide into the bracelet and you can change colours. Thats about the only thing I liked about it.

My hubby has the Nike wrist band which seems better if you like that style. it has a cool display on it :D

I just got my fitbit one on Monday (yay!). So, this is my second day using it. I love it so far. And, a few times at work, I went to use the elevator, but then took the stairs instead. It's lunch time and I'm already at 17 flights.

That said.....I thought about the flex, but I wear a watch on one wrist and often a bracelet on the other; i didn't want to interfere. I tried clipping the One to both my jeans (went to a Hockey game last night) and to my bra (at work yesterday and today)...you can't tell. Not sure when it's warmer and I'd be wearing a tank top or something. But, it's a nice option b/c today, I'm wearing a dress sans a belt or pockets.

Only bad thing (to me) about wearing it on bra is that I can't check it regularly throughout the day. I do check on my iPhone, but I like seeing the flower grow.

LOL - me too!! I have it clipped in the front middle of my bra and take a peek every now and then. Thank goodness I am in my building alone the majority of the time :) or people may really start to wonder. When I workout I put it on the strap of my sports bra to keep the sweat off of it.

I just looked (I check every few days for an update lol) on the Flex and now instead of "preorder" it says "notify me" not sure if that's a good thing or bad huh

Have any of you tried clipping it to your undies instead of your pants? I do that & my pants keep it securely in place. If you are wearing a skirt or dress then still clip it to undies but with the flat clip on the outside & the fitbit on the inside. Your undies will keep it against your body and it cant fall out. Simple really & then you can check steps when you go to the loo ;)

I have the One and will likely switch to the Flex and wear it on my ankle. The One and Ultra never did stairs right for me anyway.
