hi,
my suggestion is to add the possibility of pregnancy when calculating the daily intake. For example with my weight and height and activity myFitnessPal calculated a daily intake of 1400 calories, but since I'm 5 months pregnant I know it's too low. But every day myFitnessPal tells me I have eaten too much :-) and it's difficult for me knowing how much this is caused by my diet being not ideal (i.e. for sure I eat too much fats) and how much this is caused by my reference intake being too low. Thank you!

Hey there! I am pregnant also, and in order to get an accurate reflection of your daily caloric intake, you'll need to go to "goals" and set your weight goal to GAIN a 1/2 lb or 1 lb per week. That will boost the calories you are allotted to take in each day and help you get a better idea of how much you should be eating. Good luck!

Hi, another suggestion would be to set your goal to maintain current weight. Second trimester you can add 200-300 calories more since that's all you really need to balance out the extra calories needed for energy. I researched it a lot while I was pregnant and that's the best I came up with.

I'm pregnant also and didn't necessarily change my goal to gain weight I just have it set at maintain still but in my food diary I am able to add pregnancy which gives me extra calories each day, you can do that same thing if you are nursing.

If you look in the food diary you can search for it by Pregnancy Calories or Eating for Pregnancy

I would look at what the half pound gain setting changes compared to maintain, to reflect the 300 extra calories you need. Or set it to maintain and then customize it to be 300 cals over that number.

I have wondered this also, I have been eating 1200 cals cos I get very little exercise and I have just found out I am 5 weeks pregnant, I have mine set real low anyways due to a low metabolism but wondered where to set it, I was thinking at 1500?

I didn't know about adding the "pregnancy calories" in the Food Diary, thanks for pointing it out! I did do a comparison, and with my goal set to "gain 1/2 lb per week" my calories are set to 2220. When I changed it to "maintain", my calories were 1970. After adding to the food diary "pregnancy calories - 2nd trimester", my total calories for the day went to 2270 (50 cals more). I think I prefer the "gain 1/2 lb" method, as that is what I've seen recommended for pregnant women at this stage anyway, and I don't have to manually add the extra calories each day.

Most pregnant women only need an extra 300-500 calories a day. I'd talk with your OB and see what they say-they will know what is best for your particular situation. :) Congrats on the new addition!!
