On the iphone app it's on the upper right, just below "multi-add".
Looks like this:

And...it's 1000% more dependable and accurate than the Weight Watches app I had and paid money to have. Pure Crap.

There is a barcode scanner on the mobile app (android, blackberry, iphone, ipod). It will track carbs and protein provided the user who entered the item had entered the carbs and protein amounts.

Where does the scanner get the food information? I've scanned some things I never thought would be in there. I thought there was some national database of products.

User contributions like much of the food database on MFP.

You have to do it in 2 steps to add something that isn't in the database period if you want to add the barcode.
First you have to create the food VIA the website NOT your app, foods created within the app are PRIVATE only and can NOT have a barcode associated with them. If you create the food via the website you can share it with the general database making it a PUBLIC food and then you use your app to scan the barcode... it should come up with nothing if you've gone to the trouble of making a food item for it. There's a button "find a better match" click that and search for the food you just created. You've now associated a barcode with a food item that didn't exist in the database prior to you adding the food.

Does this work for 'Your Foods' as well or just for the main data base?

if you go to food > my foods
and you pick a food item and see both an edit button AND a delete button appear the food item is PRIVATE and can not have a barcode associated with it.
If you only see an edit button for an item on "my foods" then it' should be a public item and can have a barcode associated with it.

The food item needs to be shared at the time of creation which isn't an option via the apps, you need to create it on the website to even get the option to share it.

The scanner is built into the app for iPhone, iPad and Android..

BUT your device REQUIRES having a rear facing camera to make use of the feature.

the "picket fence" looking thing to the right of the search box IS the barcode scanner,
or the thing that looks like a barcode with a horizontal line through it which would be the "reader" part of it in action.
