I'm new here. If you want to call me a newbie, noob, whatever. I never liked it, but what can I say? Anyway, I'm lost. I made a post in the Introduce Yourself folder, now what? I don't think I specifically need help, at three weeks into my diet/lifestyle change, I'm hardly ready to post a success story, I don't have any recipes to share at the moment, and not looking for fun and games.

When I quit smoking, I was on a support forum. We had a folder for groups, a few folders for certain milestones. I guess here it could be the 20 lb club, 50 lb club, 75 lb club etc. And we had a folder where we could post to our own quit journal/diary.

I guess the two first things I'm looking for is: 1) If I wanted to post a journal, is there a folder for that? Or is that what a blog is used for? 2) Don't get me wrong ladies, I love you, but is there a group of men in here? If so, is there a group of mid-aged (40-60) men?

Blog - strict definition only

A Web site on which an individual or group of users record opinions, information, etc. on a regular basis.
Add new material to or regularly update a blog.

Apparently it started as - "weblog" which of course got hacked down to blog.... web log.... blog....

So yes, in the aspect of "recording opinions, information" etc it functions just like a journal would have. You can keep it entirely private (if you trust putting it online and counting on privacy) if you want it only private you might be better off writing it in a word processor on a computer that isn't used to connect to the internet. Doesn't get much more secure than that for others not being able to see it. Or you can set it to wide open to anyone "public" or only open to people you have friended on MFP or restricted to only MFP members.
Groups here will function similar to what you're after, there are groups for lots of things, body weight exercises in general, TRX (suspension training specifically) groups with X, Y or Z lbs to lose, challenge groups etc Not sure if there's a specific group for men in that age range but there are certainly men on the site.

Thanks Pandorian. Real helpful info. I might just open a weblog/blog thingy. I try, but the IT world grows so fast it's easy to get behind. And I hate asking the teenager living in my house. It's bad enough we need him every time we want to watch a Blu-ray and can't get sound or picture. Luckily the blu-ray player doesn't have a clock. Oh, I hated VCRs and the flashing 12:00!

And, with a little snooping around, I found an all men's group. I had to page through a lot of groups to find it. I joined it, so hopefully it will be easy to find from here on out.

if you joined the group when you go to community > message boards
you'll see a new sub-section of the boards table of contents

Group Forums Last Post

where it shows all the groups you belong to and the most recent post to each group

Welcome & enjoy your journey here. I know what you mean about "asking the teenager for help". Um, no thanks. I also decided to start a blog today - but marked mine private. And checked a couple more times to be sure it's "really private". No pictures yet ( I haven't played around with that), so just my thoughts so far. Very therapeutic during this learning process. Oh well, just thought I'd welcome you & let you know you aren't the only "newbie" here. Much success to you.

Now if I could just master this darn "auto-correct feature"

My teenager turns 15 next month. I took himto his first driver's education class on Sunday. Sheesh! I wonder how much my insurance is going to go up?
