Just a thought...since apparently people's idea of what constitutes "chit chat" varies, is there a possibility of a mod-free section. You could even call it "Free For All". And to enter you must read the rules stating "no reporting allowed in this group"?

I only ask b/c one person's idea of "bullying" or being mean is just another person's idea of humor. Too many people get bent out of shape over things.

May the odds be ever in your favour.

Seriously though some boards i frequent have a board that they call 'the pit' its where you you can go and the rule is there are no rules. Its a free for all and if you step in that section... well you chose to be there so too bad. Its not a bad Idea really.

Completely agree.

We are losing so many KNOWLEDGEABLE people who have "been there, done that" when it comes to diet and fitness merely because their sense of humor is not appreciated by someone who decides to report them. I, for one, think it's a shame that the new members coming to this site will only be left with cheerleaders who have little actual knowledge or experience as to health and fitness.

"Chit Chat" should be a "free for all" to begin with ... the reporting and banning of MFP veterans based on posts made in this specific message board is uncalled for.

I realize that there are private groups in which even those who are banned can post. But they are limiting, and some being private require invitation. I'm merely suggesting an area still open to all, but with fewer restrictions.

Those in charge will probably tell us we already have private groups for that.

The problem being that certain members are still followed into those private groups and reported for what they say there.

Really great users are being banned at the behest of users who've been here less than a month. I consider it to be a real problem. But then again I'll probably BE one of those banned users soon enough...

I think this is a fantastic idea.

No, the day you get banned is the day we burn MFP to the ground.

I love this idea. Adore it.

It'll never happen...

Can the mods ban people for things they post in private groups? I vote we ban the person who follows someone into a private group and reports them.

I love it too.

It sucks knowing that anything you post could be what gets you kicked off the forums. It keeps me from making helpful posts knowing that anything, subject to interpretation, can be considered 'attacking' someone.

I just saw someone post in a private group and the thread was deleted by mods.... It appeared to be one of those groups that most of the long-time, laid back people created.

I'm seriously thinking of leaving the site altogether. I came to count calories, I got it, I know how and I don't NEED the site any more. I stay for the friends, humor and knowledge. If everything is going to be so bland and tasteless, I'll take my toys and go home.

Yeah, I'm just a drop in the bucket but seriously, this is ridiculous.

A drop in the bucket maybe but if all of us drops in a bucket just pull out and leave than there is a lot of empty space.

I have actually considered finding a new place to haunt myself as of late due to all the crap. I have the calorie counting down - I can make spreadsheets that do what MFP does for me.. I would miss my friends - they are the reason I keep coming back.

Yes, I'd also like to point out to the mods: as others said, people are going into private groups to report people, obviously not realizing that those reports don't go to you, but other users who are admins of those groups.

It's revealing how there are just some very juvenile people driven on getting people they just don't like off the forums.

With built in language censorship, I'm not sure why heavy moderation is needed outside of moving topics appropriately; even in the suggestions forum, posts get locked just because they've been looked at, not because it's been fixed.
