Why aren't the protein, carbs, fat fields, at the very least, required?
Additionally, how about a button to vote items out of the database?
We don't need "Cathy's home made lasagna with ex-lax sauce" in the DB.

That is what I have been thinking.
I logged some cookies and apparently they have no fat..
I know they do so I am mentally taking it out of my daily allowance. I always make sure I log everything I can otherwise you will be fooling yourself!

Why are you looking up Cathy's laxative laden pasta? As for the fields being required...meh. Let people do what they want, it's not hurting you.

You can actually correct bad entries. I've corrected several entries to include the correct potassium amounts.

Agreed. I think it's stupid that when you load up a recipe and you hit yes to share that it shares everything but the recipe. Either allow recipe sharing of actual information of recipes or remove the personal recipes from the public database. Even "Betty Crocker's Home Made Blueberry Muffins" is a poor choice to have out there as generally accessible . . . are they from box home made? Are they from the recipe book from scratch home made? Did the person make any alterations to it at all? Which recipe book did it come from, because when I compare my BC to my mom's BC some of the recipes are different.

158 per serving, but her serving side is "a bunch" and there is no protein or fat data. One might argue it's a negative calorie food.

Yes, it is. It's detrimental to the site as a whole to have inaccurate data in the database.
November 8, 2012 5:38 AM
I agree with your macros suggestion. I think the default should have a bunch of them and most certainly protein should be included in that......and then you have the option to delete them if you want.

Now, for things like "Cathy's homemade lasagna with ex-lax sauce" in the database. Well WE don't need it, but Cathy's family might. I can put together a recipe on here that my whole family is eating....haven't done any with ex-lax yet, but that's a thought....lol....but for my husband to be able to log it, I have to put it into the database. I wish we had a private database option other than just my own....something able to be shared privately. That would be wonderful! I can see why MFP had everything going to their main database for a while, but I think we're pretty close to critical mass on that. It's time to open up other options.

It's user entered. If you see something that you know is incorrect, fix it. Oh wait, I see, you don't want to do it, you just want someone else to do it...

It's actually only detrimental to Cathy. But i find laxative pasta an intriguing menu item.

They're currently working on a recipe database. If you upload a recipe lately and choose the share option, it will tell you that. This should be interesting.

ohhh yes this would be lovely! I have several real life friends & family members on here including my husband so I add foods to the database but I feel like I'm clogging it up, especially when there's a pretty good chance that I wont be duplicating that recipe anytime soon or that when I make it again it'll be slightly different so I'll have to add another listing.

ok I am officially seconding the idea of having the option to privately share an entry or recipe vs putting it out there in the open database.

Agree that it is annoying, but even if you make some fields required, it won't prevent people from putting incorrect data in them. I've also corrected a number of entries myself.

I am thankful I found "Horriblevile, pile of crap, 1 heaping mound" yesterday. It was exactly what I ate.

I shared a lot of recipes for a long time because I was under the impression there would eventually be a section where you could look the recipes up. I had no idea that those recipes were going into the database. I may go back and unshare a few because several of them were very low calorie and you wouldn't be able to achieve those calorie amounts without the recipe.

If I'm adding it to my diary and I'm holding whatever it is in my hand and the info is wrong, I correct it.

Also, maybe mfp should just make the default option "don't share with database." I don't share my recipes to the database because that's just silly. I'm not giving you the recipe so why would you be logging my food?
