some times the items in the database are different the the product label in hand. Products from other places may have different nutrtion information and it is usually just off by one or two facts such as sodium is different or augars etc. Instead of creating a new food could there be a way to edit an item and have that edit just show up on your diary and not the database?

Any user created food can be edited, just the MFP ones (not marked with * as seen on the computer) can't be edited.

But the edit does show up on that item for everyone, it doesn't "copy" it to your "my foods" list for your future use. You can edit any item claiming it to be the one you want to use in the future or you can simply create a new food item and don't share it with the database, that way no one but you can edit it as its a personal "my food" item
