TOPIC: Barcode scanner - silent mode

September 15, 2012 09:55
I am using MFP mainly on my phone. I personally find it a bit embarrasing when I scan every food at work trying to make it invisible and loud 'ping' goes off each time. I couldn't find a way to turn off the beeping, but it cannot be too difficult to add such feature. Are there any plans to make it silent (or at least turn off the sound in settings)?

I second that suggestion! I also would like to be to manually enter the code. Sometimes my phone wont scan the damn code and it could help to be able to do a search for the number.

Agreed! I searched everywhere on the app to see if there was a way to silence it, but haven't found anything. I usually put my finger over the thing that makes the noise to make it quieter...but you can still hear it no matter what. I've also come into the habit of ripping barcodes off my stuff, then scanning it when I get somewhere no one can hear it. Unfortunately, that sometimes makes me overeat...

At least on my Android, if my media volume is turned all the way down, it doesn't boop when scanning.

That's a very good suggestion. Many phones have hardware volume buttons on the side but this is probably not what you want as this tends to only adjust the media volume when playing media, i.e. music/video or when an app is currently making a noise - otherwise it adjusts the call volume during and call and the ringer volume when idle.

The media volume is in the settings and you can turn this all the way down without missing incoming calls because the ringer volume is separate.

Why be embarrassed? If someone questions what you are doing, just hold your head high and say "gettin healthy" and walk away, like a boss.

Well embarassed when you find yourself scanning EVERYTHING, which I did for the first few weeks. People were looking at me as if I were completely crazy!

In my phone the only way I can turn the beep off is by muting all media (which is sometimes not the best idea).
