For Christ's sake, showing Total Carbs is misleading, and I have to go all the way to reports to even see my fiber totals! And no sugar alcohol tracking either, but that's less important.

Not everyone just tracks "net" carbs.

Why not just add the fiber to list?

Can'y you subtract sugar alcohols and fiber yourself? I'm eating low carb, and it's not a problem for me to track net carbs.

In your diary settings, you can change which macros it shows. You can add fiber in there if you'd like

Maybe your low carb diet is making you cranky OP. You sure sound grumpy...

I don't think it's necessary to replace the carbs with net carbs, but it would be nice to at least have sugar alcohols tracked so I don't have to remember to save wrappers or whatever... and then I can do the maths from there.

Thanks for the tip on adding fiber, that was a settings page I had missed. That helps a lot.
Subtracting myself would involve making my own version of every food I use in the database... if this isn't how you do it, AggieLu, how do you track sugar alcohols? It's not on the nutrition page. As far as not everyone tracking net carbs... why? Where I live fiber is counted separately from carbs on the nutrition info. I couldn't figure out why there was a carb discrepancy until I stumbled across the US concept of net carbs. Anyways, thanks for the suggestions. |

And I'm not even on a low carb diet! I just don't want fiber in my carbs total.

I agree that would be a nice feature. I think it probably shouldn't be *changed* to net carbs - but having the option to track net carbs would be great!

You pick what you want to see in your settings catagory so you should not have to go reports to see fiber if that is important to you.

I didn't even know what "net carbs" were, so googled and found an explanation here http://www.fitday.com/fitness-articles/fitness/what-are-net-carbs.html so fon't think it will bother me.
OP I did go in and manually adjust my settings to reduce the amount of carbs and increased the amount of protein, that might help you if you do that?

Nutritionist told me specifically to not use net carbs, just the real carbs. It might be a nice feature or choice for some.

I've been tracking my fiber on here all along, right next to my carbs so easy to subtract. =)

Having the option to track Net Carbs would be a great compromise. I like it!

I've created listings in "my foods" for a few items that I eat often to show the net carbs (like the Healthy Choice Fudge bar!). I also make notes in the notes section for things like that. Fiber is one of the things I track so it's easy for me to figure out net carbs. I don't always eat all my carbs (I'd rather go over on my protein or fat) and I'm almost always over on fiber so it's not a big problem for me.

I'd like to be able to add Net Carbs to the view, especially the food entry view.

There's a browser script for MFP that does the fiber subtraction for you: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/124645
Most LCHFers I know use it; I couldn't track without it.

Still, though not everyone tracks net carbs, it would be a real improvement to have the option. I see some of the Atkins bars purport to enter "net Carbs" but only sugar alcohols are subtracted, not fiber.

I track total carbs. I'm not even remotely interested in net carbs. Track your fiber and subtract.

You track sugar alcohols and such by looking at the labels of the foods you eat. Not everyone wants all of those macros broken down and cluttering their food logs. I care about overall carbs, couldn't care less about net carbs. |
