I've already gotten mail back about the fact that devices with 'user facing cameras' e.g. Google Nexus 7 are not supported for the barcode scanning. I'll concede that I don't understand why, because watching my housemate scan barcodes with her iPhone doesn't seem like a different process than what I would use, but that's immaterial - I'm just piping up in public with a wish for this to be implemented soon, please!

Also, I'm sad to see that it's not implemented on the website, either, especially with the prevalence of webcams. (The 5 year old laptop my daughter handed 'up' to me has a built-in camera!)

I'm sure that expanding barcode scanning support would be a much-loved effort.

Thank you!

Ditto for nexus 7

Just chiming in to second/third the plea:

Please update to allow the Nexus 7 camera to scan barcodes too! It sounds like such a helpful and quick tool!

Please do support the barcode scanner for the Nexus 7.

Would love to see the ability to scan barcodes on the website. As well as the option to switch between cameras on the iPad! It seems silly to have to pick up my iPad every time I want to scan when I could just hold each item over the front camera.

No idea why this functionality is not there. Is this another case of techies living in the apple world.

Judging by the fact that ONLY Nexus 7 users are posting here, I think accusing MFP Techs of being "in the apple world" is a bit extreme. It would seem that every other Android, Windows Mobile (and Blackberry?) phone have this feature. Not sure why the Nexus 7 got left off. I know so little about that phone.

The webcam on the other hand...GREAT suggestion. My new netbook has a built-in webcam and that would be handy.

Blackberry do not have this feature, so Nexus is not alone.

Sounds like this is a device issue, not a MFP issue. Does your device not allow you to scan barcodes from the front camera or does MFP not accept a scanned barcode from the front camera? I know my iphone flips the picture when it is from the front camera, so a flipped barcode would not read correctly.

Yes, barcode scanning from front cameras needed!!!

The Nexus 7 is actually a 7" tablet. It is notable for being very good value for money (well specced for the price) and also for having only a front facing camera, not a rear facing one. As is the Android way this will run the Android phone app without modification but it seems the app only looks for a rear facing camera and therefore doesn't the offer the ability to scan barcodes. That is a pity as the Nexus 7 is otherwise quite a nice size to have in the kitchen.

Yes the Nexus7 will attempt to read bar codes but, for whatever reason, it cant do it. The camera is pretty sad as is and is barely passable for video chat. I think the issue may revolve around contrast. In order to read the bar-code the camera has to be able to distinguish between light and dark clearly. When I run the bar code scanner on my wife's Nexus7 it tries to make out the various points of contrast but just cant see them. The black bars look very muddled and are not very clear. No matter how much light is on it or changing of the angels I do the bar codes just look fuzzy. I also don think the camera allows for "auto-focus" as most other rear cameras do. Could be the reason why the BB phones also don't work but I don't know for sure. I know my iPod reads them pretty well and I don't usually have to fight with it a ton to get it to work.

I think the Nexus7 users are just going to have to do without and hope the next iteration of the device includes a good rear facing camera.

There is also no option for my built in webcam for my netbook, so I have to use my phone.

Please write a bespoke and entirely new, free app for a small niche market of basically lazy users, that want the benefits of more advanced technology, without having to purchase any.

Thanks x

Why hasn't nexus 7 and forward facing cameras been added to the devices able to use the barcode scan? Many are requesting it and nexus 7 is one of the more popular tablets. It`s been quite some time since this was request end. I would have thought mfp would have fixed this by now.

Don't understand why only having a front facing camera is a problem. I can scan with every other app using my nexus 7. I've even used other tablets with only a front facing camera before and MFP allowed me to scan with the front cam. Within the code you can specify which camera to use. Might have to try decompiling and modding it a lil myself.

It's time don't you think for yet another plea. How can you ignore the Nexus 7?

Wow. Belitteling others makes you seem really intelligent.

Sidenote: Please make the barcode feature available for nexus, MFP peeps. :-)

Just tried it and it works. Really happy because I scanned some obscure barcode and did not expect it to work! So convenient!

Hi All. Is the barcode scanner supposed to work on nexus 7 now? I just bought a new nexus 7 tablet about a month ago and it scanned pretty well at first, but now it won't. It just seemed to get worse and worse until finally nothing. Wondering if it's a software or hardware problem. I really love MFP and the tablet too...wish they could get along. Even reloaded app but still nothing.
