I feel like I'm all over the place with my workouts and therefore find it hard to stick to a plan since I have no structure. Sometimes I do Jillian Michael's, sometimes I go on long walks, and sometimes I use user-created youtube videos. I'd love to go to a gym and pick up a regimen there, but unfortunately that's currently out of the question.
How did you find a plan and stick with it? |

My plan started in a gym. I mainly go to use the cardio equipment ex:treadmill. I'm on the treadmill everyday no less than 45 minutes. I end up being on it for an hour or half and burn about 400-600 calories on good days. That's my structure. My goal is weight loss, and to build endurance/stamina so I can run further and faster!

My plan is generally just that I should exercise on certain days. In some ways what you're doing is great because you won't get bored doing the same thing everyday. Set a specific time each day for exercise, and do what you're in the mood for that day. If you're looking to progress to a certain level in any one activity (run a 5K for example) you should have a plan centered around that.
On the days that I go to the gym, I do 35 minutes on the eliptical, 13 minutes on the treadmill (slowly increasing time to keep from hurting my ankles again). and spend around 20 minutes lifting. I also stretch afterwards. My goal is to be at the gym 5 days a week, but that doesn't usually happen. If I'm there 3 days in a week, I'm happy with myself. My plan was created by me, partially based off the plan I used to follow years ago from another site. You've lost 11 pounds already, so what you are doing seems to be working for you so far. |

Moving is a plan. As long as you are active, what you do really doesn't matter. Keep chosing things that you like that you know you'll actually do and you'll be fine.

I am a list maker so I find that writing down what exercises I like doing helps me start formulating a plan of attack.

I am a list-maker and need rigid structure but do a lot of different activities. I joined DailyMile, which has little bar graphs at the top of your page to show your workouts in time. You can still be strict with yourself by being determined to make that weekly graph look great without having to stick to a single exercise. Hiking, swimming, weights, running... It has worked well for me, especially during the summers, when one day would be a 5 hour hike up a mountain and the next a 20 minute exercise tape. It's all documented and I don't feel chaotic about my active lifestyle. |

You're better off doing a variety of things. Everyone gets bored doing the same anything for very long. And there's less risk of injury.
Just do something. It doesn't have to cost much. You can do almost anything with a set of exercise bands and a yoga mat.

It's ok to do different things every day. Just don't stress over it. Right now I'm doing the stationary bike but getting bored with it, one day of zumba and a day of personal training. Today I went to a new gym and I may joion it, but I can't do it until October because I'm busy moving my elderly mom from new jersey to massachusetts. Some days I just walk as well.

I bought a treadmill off ebay that turned out to need a 200 mile round trip to collect it, and then lots of swearing and struggling to get it from the van to my 2nd floor apartment between me and my bf. It takes up virtually all the space in what was once a very open and spacious hallway, yet my bf doesn't complain. Now, if I don't use it I feel a horrible sense of guilt for buying such a ridiculous thing and clogging up our home with it! Makes me use it, lol.

I signed up for a race .... Knowing that I have to run 21km motivates me to keep building up my endurance.

I do whatever I feel like doing exercise wise... as long as I push myself and give 100% in it. If you push yourself super hard one day and decide a slow walk for the next its better than doing nothing!
However If you like structure, talk to someone at your gym and they will assess your goals and create a workout plan for you. Then you can review it from time to time and change it as your body does, and as you progress :) |
