It would be nice if we could tag topics to read for later so we do not have to actually post in them. The tag would go to the post level, so when click the tag in your tags list, you go straight to the post you want to see. Nice for recipe posts, stuff like that.

Edited to add:

With tags, people would not have to make a post of "bump" just so it can be saved to view later.

No offense to your idea, but I don't understand why people can't bookmark the thread or keep it up in a browser tab or just email themselves the link for later if they're at work. They're easy alternatives to bothering a thread with a meaningless post.

Three reasons why (good point, by the way):

Because I do not want to have to CTRL D everything I like but don't want to post in. Adding a tag with an anchor tag reference <aref...> or <href...> makes the board much more user friendly.

And emailing links is so not needed when there is a technological alternative.

Also, tags would allow you to go through a quick list on this site. They would be based on your MFP user ID, so it would not be cookie dependent. Because they would be stored here, you can clear your browser, delete your favorites and your bookmarks, and your tags would still be here.

Oh, and a fourth thing I thought of while at lunch: If you email the links, you have to somehow keep them all organized via rules, put into a special folder, etc., and you still won;t have anchor tags.

bump. I can't tell you how many times I've gone back to a thread and had to weed through 10+ pages to find the post with the recipe I wanted!

In other online forums, it is called subscribing to a thread. I think it is a good idea. When I first started I couldn't figure out why people were bumping a thread only a minute or two after the last post.

This is also called a Subscription, and is pretty much on every message board BUT this one.

There's usually a link to subscribe to a thread then on your home page, you see a list of the threads you're subscribed to.

This board not having that feature is why everyone uses "bump" in the non-standard way.

Very good idea. There should be a way to sticky/ tag/ highlight certain post since most people can't sit on MFP all day.
