Wow am I sick. It’s a blend of fatigue, fever, respiratory, and sore throat. Right now my main goal is to stay alive…. no running for me. It’s what you would expect from all the traveling I’ve been doing the last few weeks.

Once I get a little energy, I will be out running again. The fall colors are perfect and I can’t wait to hit my favorite trails and enjoy it.

Hope you are feeling better soon! flowerforyou

Hi Guys heart I've been a little out of the loop and super busy so havent been able to post much... but I just wanted to give a little update....

I got to Iraq a little over a month ago (11 months to go!!!!) and I've been working out like crazy to pass the time. I'm only running 2 times a week, but I'm teaching a spinning class 3 days a week, and doing P90X (I'm doing 'doubles' and just finishing up my 5th week!) I took my 1 month pictures last weekend and ....WOW! What a difference!

My husband is here with me, which makes the deployment much easier, and we've been working out together, pushing eachother. I'm going to try and post a little more often, when I get the time!!

hope everyone is doing well!!!

... today's workout -- 1 hour spinning class in the AM and Legs&Back/ARX tonight

Welcome back Tiddle! Be safe, please? Your progress in p90x is awesome! I'm considering picking it up for the mornings but I honestly don't know if I can handle that plus half marathon training ohwell

Last night was just a standard 5k run BUT I struggled through most of it. I'm guessing my legs were still tired from the long run? But I was able to keep going, and actually made decent time. No where near my best but still decent.

Today is probably a rest day, then I'm doing another long run tomorrow, before hiking on sunday.

good morning!
HAPPY FRIDAY drinker smokin drinker smokin drinker

Well -- the doctor tried to scare me. He came in and said..."Have you ever had a stress fracture before?" to which I answered "no" -- then he smiled and said "you don't have one now either!" Ended up being a sprained toe and tendonitis -- he gave me a cream to help and told me to take drugs and get inserts with a little more arch support. I'm not sure what else he said -- when he said it wasn't broken, I didn't hear much after that. but NEVER did he say I couldnt run bigsmile

So I ran 3 miles last night -- back on track on the marathon training. Today is a rest day -- then 5 tomorrow and 9 on Sunday. woohoo!!! But I felt like I had blocks on my feet last night....but when I checked my time I was running 30 seconds faster per mile than normal....so at least I know I can run with blocks!!!!

Tiddle -- good to see you back around! congrats on all you are doing! Be safe -- and keep us posted! Sounds like you are keeping very busy. Oh -- and lets see the new pic!

chgudnitz -- you remind me of the kid that's been sent to his room....just looking out the window wishing he was playing with his friends! Don't fret -- restriction shouldn't be for much longercry

Enjoy your day!

Hello everyone flowerforyou

Rest day for me... makes me restless.

jabdye - glad to hear you saw the doc and it's not a stress fracture! That's a scary little joke!

Tiddle - wow, you have a lot going on! Very motivating!

chgundnitz - you need some kind of virtual reality running program so you can get your "fix"! laugh

msarro - Good luck on your long run tomorrow. I'm planning on a long one tomorrow too... keep us posted!

unlike Channing, a rest day for me yesterday was so enjoyable, i'm taking another one today!

actually, i'll be running a nice, slow mile with a coworker, so it won't be a total lazy-boy day. i'm trying to spread the running bug around here. and i almost forgot, i actually have a race tomorrow. running the Nike Human Race 10K. we're not an official host city (if you're familiar with it, they're staging this in about 20 cities around the world, but you can also run wherever you are and upload your run to the Nike site to be one of the official "participants" in the event. last year they had almost 800,000 runners around the world!)

anyway, my dad and i will run it with a group sponsored by a local running store in st. louis. should be interesting to run wtih the pack again; it's been a couple years since i've run an actual race.

No running for me AGAIN todaycry . I feel better than I did yesterday... yesterday was downright terrible sick But, still not good enough to run. I haven't gotten nearly enough calories in me yesterday and today to even attempt running.

How long do you guys usually wait after being really sick to run again? Should I wait until I'm 100% back to normal, or just until I feel pretty good? Don't want to push too hard, especially with a compromised immune system, but at the same time... I'm DYING to run!

I really want to be able to run my 5 miler on Nov. 21st, but I'm not sure- not running at all due to being so sick this week is scaring me into thinking I won't be ready explode Darn middle schoolers must have given me their very best germs... grumble

Kelynn usually when I'm sick I don't wait until I'm 100% but just when I feel like I have the energy to workout, just don't push yourself too much, go on a few easy runs first to get back into it, hope you feel better!

My hip flexors are little sore today but good sore!... good run yesterday. At school right now (on my break, I'm not one of those people who pretends to type notes when really they are on mfp laugh) ... going to the gym after class to get some hard cross training in. Doing an early run tomorrow with my mom!

HAPPY RUNNING ALL!

I think I may be skipping my rest day today, lol. My company ordered lunch for us, so I ordered a big salad. Nothing super fancy. Still, I'm gonna make sure I burn it off. I'll probably go do some crosstraining or something.

so at 5 min til noon (the appointed running time), my coworker approaches me in the hall and says she's going home, so no run today. what's up with that? actually, she did sound pretty bad. but you know we don't take excuses like that here in the MFP runner's club! oh wait, yes we do...

kelynn -- i would agree u need to be careful, but don't think that you have to get back to 100% before you give it a try (key words: give it a try). go for a short one, nice and easy, and you'll be able to tell if it's too much.

as for me, i'll be resting up and getting ready for a PR tomorrow! (i don't even remember what my PR is for 10K, so no matter where i finish i'll just consider it my best race yet)

Thanks for slowing down B! laugh laugh Even if I have no hope of catching you this month I will be running on the 24th for the human race too.

Kelynn, I wait until I feel like running again, or at least start out small and see how I feel after a few runs. Heck, I just got back from a week of vacation and my body is rebelling on my runs this week so sick may take a few days! Hope you feel better soon flowerforyou

Speaking of, my runs have been hard AND slow this week but I am unwilling to injure so I am trying to listen to my body. With tomorrow in mind I am resting today and getting costumes ready for halloween! bigsmile Love halloween and the weather has been great here so it shouldn't be a hot one this year (fingers crossed, knock on wood etc etc) wink

Have great runs today everyone!

Thanks for the advice, everyone. I'm going to try a run on Sunday. I just am starting to feel decent now, but still not real great. So, I'm thinking that if I relax today and give myself another day to rest and get better, then by Sunday I should be good to go- even if it's just for a short, slow run.

Thanks flowerforyou

had to tell you all about the shirt I bought for winter running today!!!!
It's by Mizuno and it wicks away the sweat and turns it into body heat!
I have NO clue how it works, but they had a sample piece of fabric which they saturated with water and as I rolled it between my hands it got warmer and warmer!!! The saleswoman told me I just need a sports bra under it...no base layers...nothing. The store is run by all runners and they all wear them...the guys obviously skip the sports bra tongue I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I can't wait for a really cold morning to try it out!!!! Isn't today's technology insane!?!?!

I would love to find that shirt - I actually just stopped yesterday at my running store and bought a cap with the same technology by mizuno - I was intrigued by the technology too - a shirt would be perfect. I've been wearing just knit caps and I end up with it drenched!!! so thought the wicking and the warming would be great :)

Likewise for me. I worked all day and had a dinner theatre performance today (its a murder mystery! It was super fun to improv and interact with the audience!) and I have one again tomorrow and work all day again, likely won't be able to make it to the gym tomorrow (didn't today either!). But I know that I won't be this busy all the time, and its probably for the better, its easier to not be tempted to run when I have no time (my hip flexor thing is still bothering me a little, I really want it to be fully healed before I go hard again). So I am going to try three or four easy miles on Sunday and see how it feels for me, I am thinking I should be ok to run by then but I don't want to try a long run and then be out of commission for a while again.

On the plus side, I bought new running shoes, they are Aisics, I forget the exact name but they cost 130 bucks I don't think ive ever paid that much for shoes before so I hope they are worth it! I also paid 20 bucks for a good insert, I am really antsy to try them out, I am itching to run sooo bad! That shirt from mizuno sounds awesome, If you have the name/price or details I would be interested.
