Wk9 D1 - DONE!! (12 weeks in program total)

Well, I'm on Week 9. Can't believe it. It was a sunny day, but chilly and OH the wind. At one point I felt I was running in place. If anything could force me onto the treadmill, it would be this Yorkshire wind.

Hope everyone is feeling better this week. Good to see you here again falhaone.

Applepie - welcome to the club! I think you will find the program very do-able - challenging, but do-able! Each week you will be building stamina and pushing yourself further. Each week starts out a challenge, but by the end of the week, it feels easier.

Jlbay - good job today! You are almost done!

Falhaone - glad you are back! Let us know how it goes today.

I can't believe it, but I am now on week 6. Today was Day 1 and consisted of 3 running intervals: 5 minutes, 8 minutes, and 5 minutes again, with 3 minutes of walking in between. It wasn't hard for me at all. It amazes me to say this, because in the beginning, 60 seconds felt impossible!

Way to go, Shinybonnie! Today was my first day and towards the end, I wasn't sure if this was a good choice. It's good to know that it does get better, and that yes, it is a good choice. Everything worthwhile takes time and effort, right? :D Keep it up!! :D

Hello Everyone!!

I just did WK1 D1 today. I've done this program a few times before, but always quit about week 6 for one reason or another. I'm hoping that posting on here will keep me on track so that I can actually finish the program this time. I forgot how much I love to run!! Happy Running! smile

Decided to move on to w5d1. Was able to finish. Right now I need the challenge of a different run every day. When I finish I know I will be able to increase my speed starting at week 4.

Hello to all the newbies. I love running too - it took me a long time to call myself that. glasses

Hey there everybody. I have only ran twice in the last 3 weeks or something like that. Its crazy!!! I had an excuse when I was sick, now I'm just in a rut and can't get out of it. I am in a place where only cookies and wheat thins sound good and running in the snow sounds like torture grumble I really want to keep running, so I need to get out there and just do it. I won't be able to go to the gym for a few more weeks till I get a car, but until then I need to get out and do it. I ran two days ago and only made it through 7 minutes before I felt like my nose was freezing off. Where did my motivation go? Do I just need warmer running gear? Or am I needing a mental makeover instead? I will work through this, cause I'm not going to be a quitter this time. I'm two weeks away from graduating from the c25k and one week into starting the gateway to 8k so I really need to get up and going again.

I am still seeing the amazing guy and we are doing great so at least thats good LOL

YOU CAN DO IT!!!!!! You are my inspiration. If you can run in the snow, I can run in the rain! ( I bought a cheap treadmill and it was well worth it!)

Congrats on making it this far. You're wind experience sounds about like mine LOL thanks for the motivation. Its good to know that someone else can make it out in the wind and cold too. I needed to hear that badly LOL

Jdubard0413- Thanks, I'll try again tomorrow and see if I can make it. Its snow around a foot already in the last 24 hours, but at least that means its a bit warmer than it was a couple days ago when I tried running in the wind. You guys are my inspiration as well.

applepie- great job! keep it up!!!

i did w4d1-2nd week of doing it on Monday and i was all over the place with my speed on the treadmill. I feel like i'm regressing and I don't like it. Today i'm going to do w4d2-2nd week... i'm hoping it gets better!! Cause if i'm struggling with the 5min running interval how will I ever move on??? Without everyone here I probably would have given up already, I think about you all constantly when I want to give up!!

Angie - it does get better! You are not regressing, your body is gaining strength and endurance and it is uncomfortable. Don't worry about the speed as much as the length of time that you are keeping your heart rate up by jogging/running. Let us know how it goes today!

Falhaone - whoa! way to get back on the bandwagon! I can't imagine doing two days of running in one! For me, I need that day of rest in between for my body to recuperate. But I understand, when you get busy you have to work it in when you can. Its hard when you don't feel like it. Posting on here daily keeps me accountable. Even though I know that none of you know my running schedule, and probably wouldn't miss it if I failed to post, for me, I know that every Mon, Wed, and Fri, I need to post on here that I have done my run; otherwise, I might not do it because, in all honesty, I NEVER feel like running!!! I hate it!!

Applepie - hey, good job with W1D2! How are you feeling during the runs? I remember by the end of the first week, I was finally feeling like I could make it through all 8 intervals and I wasn't going to die! Lol! I found W2 to be easier since there were only 6 running intervals. I hate running, so the fewer running intervals - the better!

Ok, so today was W6D2 for me. I am still shocked that I have made it this far. Today's run consisted of two 10 minute running intervals with 3 minutes of walking in between. Two weeks ago, the 5 minute runs were kicking my @ss. Today, the only challenge of running 10 minutes is the boredom. Lol! So I just think about my day and what needs to be done, or whatever. The podcast is so boring with the techno music. I'm looking forward to getting out of the intervals just so I can listen to something else while running. In the 10 minutes of running, I made it 3 laps around the track, so.... I'm not sure how fast that is, but I sure ain't doing no 6mph or 10-minute-mile! I guess it's more like 13.5 minute-mile, or less than 5mph. So, Angie1215, SLOW DOWN!! Lol! I plan on working on speed AFTER I've finished this program. The first goal is to get to a point where I can run/jog for a long period of time w/out stopping. Speed will come later!

Good luck to all who have runs today! I can't wait to hear how it went!

Hi everyone - so happy to see everyone who is pushing through limits to do this!!
Congratulations to everyone for keeping at it, when it got difficult!

I'm in the middle of finals week for my on-line university program. so, i don't have much time to write - or anything else.

Just wanted to say hi and keep at it AND

Week 9, Day 2 - DONE! (12th week in program total). I ran after my exam today - needed the mental break and the chance to do something physical. I'm going to graduate from the program during finals week at uni - ha!

I am beginning to think that running in the snow is not for me LOL I got outside and ran for about 5 minutes, and was way too hot under all the layers in some places and way to cold on my feet and face LOL I bought the nice running socks for cold weather and sadly they aren't helping. Not to mention I almost fell on the ice like 5 times in that 5 minutes LOL I'm not giving up though. I am going to be getting a car in the next week or two, so I'll be able to make it to the gym more than once a week. I'm going to walk outside and try to run a little, and do dvds at home and run on my gym day. Then once I get my car I can go to the gym 3 days a week and also start saving up to get a treadmill!! Hooray! I really want to work towards the half marathon thing, so I promise I am not going to give up.

You guys are all awesome. You all keep me going. I will make it through the last 2 weeks of the program even if it takes me 6 weeks LOL and keep going after that

I purchased these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001MKOJXQ/ref=ox_ya_oh_product since I read about them in an article by a woman who runs in Boston, MA. I thought you may be interested in something like that. wink

I commend all of you who are running in the freezing cold and SNOW noway. I don't think my southern butt would be able to do it laugh. I mean at this point it's 5:30pm and it's oh a nice 63 degrees out (I do believe it's gonna be a warm winter for us)... and to be honest I put a sweatshirt on to go to class this morning when it was in the 50's. And Oh yes.. the fuzzy boots have been out this year already laugh !

I usually hate the snow.. well I have in the past. But I think it might be a nice escape in the winter to run in it. Everything is always so silent with snow. It would be a nice way to just escape with my thoughts. smile Though, I know it won't be as bad as laurajoyw's weather, since she's in Alaska! tongue

done with w4d2-2nd week!!!!!!!

laurajoy-so glad to read that you are not giving up! you truly are an inspiration to me!!! along with everyone else on here!!

Sooo Bonnie I took you advice, I know that it's all about completing the program and not how fast you are running but since i was running at 5.0 in weeks1-3 i wanted to keep up that pace. Obviousy i can't, and i have come to terms with that lol. Today i walked at 3.6 and ran at... 4.4. I always try to push myself but I guess I can only do my best. The last 5min interval again i was dying BUT when I really thought about it, I wasn't dying as bad as I was when I was running at 5.0. So for now i'm going to stick with 4.4 running, I'm so scared of week 5 and beyond that. sad noway

Did it! D2w1. And..really had fun with it. My kids rode their bikes along side as I ran. They kept saying, "Go mom!" or "We're going to beat you home..slow poke!" I loved it. :D I don't know why I didn't start this sooner. But then again..it was only the 2nd day. I'm sure it will get more challenging as time goes. BUT..we're all doing this! Isn't that awesome?! Way to go everyone!! Keep it up!! :D

Thanks for all the encouraging words. It's nice to know what others have felt while running, knowing I'll be right there soon, but also knowing that in time..I'll have reached a goal. And all because I didn't give up and had experiences to read from all of you. :D Thanks so much!

Everyone is doing an awesome job, keep up the great work. If I can finish this program so can you. I know what a cliche. LOL I have found setting a goal for when you are done is a great thing. I am actually running in my first run this Saturday. I thought it was a 5K, but it is a 4 mile run. I am nervous and excited. I know I can do it, just have to put one foot in front of the other.
Keep running everybody. Don't give up on yourself. bigsmile

Two thumbs up to the end of Week 6! I had to repeat day 2 as I was just too tired from the long day before to finish the second 10 minute run on saturday, but it was easy peasey to do on tuesday. So today was W6D3 I did 2.1 miles during my 25 minutes and about 2.5 total. I'll probably do the the first day of week 7 on saturday as I've only done two runs this week and saturday is a regular run day.
