It would be great if you had a calculator to enter foods and/or restaurant items to give guidance on the best nutritional choices. You could enter the food of choice and then it could recommend the substitute....
Another option would be to enter a restaurant name and have the best nutritional options from their menu pop up.

I agree. I have doing well in my food choices at home and work, but today at lunch I am attending a going away gathering at a local restaurant. Also, this evening I am attending an adult family dinner at another restaurant. I have been looking on line at the menus and it looks like all I can eat is nothing and water. Help would be great.

some of the restaurant foods are listed on MFP ... eg- we went to Outback for dinner the other night- I typed in "Outback Special SIrloin" and it came up!

I've seen suggestions similar to this before and I've always thought "Some people are so lazy that they want the website to do everything for them".
After giving this some more thought, you are spot on...don't tell me I'm making a bad choice but if I look up the restaurant name only, give me the option to see the list of foods by lowest calorie first. That would be awesome because it would make deciding what to order so much faster. Thanks for changing my mind!

there is an app called food switch - i dont think its for resturants, but more for when you go grocery shopping. You scan the barcode of an item and it will display a healthier alternative.

I have an app called fooducate, you can scan or type in items, it will give the item a rating on how healthy it is (A,B,C,D,F) and will give you all kinds of nutritional facts and also gives you better alternatives for that food. It has a huge database so if I'm at the store debating whether I should buy something I'll just scan it and see how it rates it and see if there's a better alternative :)

Another great app that offers healthy alternatives is Fooducate. I wish MFP had a partnership with them since MFP already know what I eat and then Fooducate could suggest alternatives.
