Jee, I just did my Max cardio/abs and I was almost sick when I got done, I could hardly make it through! My son is into weight lifting & supplements and he told me to supplement before my workout, that it really helps him but I am sooo cautious with stuff cuz I am taking thyroid med's and stuff for high testosterone levels, low estrogen and low progesterone levels! My testosterone level is actually quite high (the dr. says off the charts high). It is nice to have some but this causes havoc with my other levels and right now I am experimenting with different supp's and doing blood/saliva draws quite freqently! Tell you what! I am really sick of this and growing old is not fun!!! I almost dread my fitness test, I feel like it will be my lowest score due to the fatigue, I hope I can make it through! Sorta depressing really!!!

I am so sorry you are having such a difficult time. I will be thinking of you. I have a sluggish thyroid and it is such a pain. I cut out all artif. sweeteners and have to be careful. I hate the taste of some of the whey products. I just tried the biggest loser raspberry whey and it is not too bad. I'll keep you posted.

Sandy, what is in the recovery drink for protien etc; how many oz. and are they expensive? I do use occasionally ISOPURE zero carb ,40g protien , 20 oz, aspartame &preservative free and 160 calories a bottle! Also do you use 1 gram of protien per pound of your body weight? I was running late yesterday morning due to lack of sleep so I missed my scheduled Insanity workout, I went to the gym after work exhausted but did a 1/2 hour HARD on the elliptical then did an hour lifting weights and then my friends came in for their "training" session! I was at the gym for 3 hours, was going to do my Insane workout in there some time yesterday but I missed it so I am set back a day on the schedule, that really bugs me I did that! When I started this I told my husbad that I would carry this through till the end and when I missed yesterday I feel like a quitter or a cheater now!!! Back at it and I will finish! Have a blessed day!

Hi Verda!

I use Beachbody's Results & Recovery Formula; it has a 4:1 carb:protein ratio, which is exactly what a recovery drink should be. Recovery drinks and protein shakes are not the same. You want a recovery drink following intense workouts to replace the glycogen & blood sugars lost during the workout. A protein shake is useful for keeping your protein & calorie counts up.

Other alternatives are 8oz non-fat chocolate milk, or 8oz apple or grape juice mixed with 2tbsp vanilla protein powder.

Missing one day does not make you a cheater or quitter! This is a lifestyle. If it takes 67 days to finish one program, then so be it. It's not like you're stopping there! flowerforyou

You know what is not depressing? You workout all the time (even with a hurt ankle) instead of sitting on the couch and eating ice cream. You know what else is not depressing? You are not using your testosterone levels as an excuse to call it quits. Keep truckin'... you are doing fabulously! How many other people do you know that are doing Insanity? Probably none... except us insane people. Chin up buddy.

Sandy,
They are supplements prescribed from my hormone doctor for my high testosterone and low estrogen & progesterone. Also from him, I take supplement for adrenal fatigue! The hormone supp's are made in a compounding pharmacy where they are made with natural and unatural product that will match "YOU"! I get my blood tested within every 3 months and this has been going on since Feb.. I must say that I do feel 10 times better than I did one year ago, I had hot flashes every hour that made me sweat worse than insanity does, I could not think, could not sleep no matter how tired I was, no sex drive, I was extremely irritable etc:: LIFE was absolutely UGLY for 1 1/2 yrs but I think I am making progress. Hot flashes still but NOT as bad, get tired working out but most every other thing is better!!

Thanks Sandy, I have some whey protien I will mix in with juice or if I have to I will do skim milk with choc syrup, I am just not a fan of milk!!! When you mentioned the glycogen & blood sugar it reminded me of what I said to my son today. I told him I thought of being a diabetic when my fatigue was like that while working out! I here Shaun T say to use some "during" too, do you? I appreciate all the encouragement and information you give us! Thanks sooooo much !

Oh I absolutely use it during the workouts. By the end of an Insanity workout, 20oz of water & my recovery drink are both gone. I'll sip some during the workout, and then down the rest immediately after.

And I am not a milk fan either. Bad childhood memories, I guess.

I'm sorry Verda. That certainly doesn't sound like fun.

I think you are doing a fabulous job! Like the others have said, it would be so easy to sit on the couch and do nothing. But that's not you! Give yourself a HUGE pat on the back and keep kicking booty!! drinker

Hey Guys,

I got my workout done early, but I'm just getting a chance to sit. Today was Back & Biceps + ARX. I woke up late and didn't have a chance to do any yoga, so I may try to squeeze that in a bit later. If not, then that's the way it goes sometimes! drinker

Jess: Nice of you not to kill your friends. laugh

Verda: Great! I'm glad that made you feel better. flowerforyou

Well... I did pure cardio today and didn't stop once. I am getting so much better at Insanity. I only have 44 more days until my tummy tuck... I am so excited to see my extra skin go away from pregnancy. I have saved up for seven years. It is going to be so exciting to be able to see the abs that I have created. I am very concerned about not exercising for six weeks. It has become so much a part of me for the last couple of years. I know it is going to be worth it but ... I don't want to get out of the habit. Luckily, I will be in the best shape of my life before the surgery.

Good for you!! Lucky!! I would love to get a tummy tuck for my lower abs. 3 kids were not kind to my skin. grumble I have a friend that had a tummy tuck/ boob job a few months ago and she said the first 2 weeks recovery were tougher than she thought, but she bounced back pretty well by 6 weeks.

Well, I did *not* get in Back & Biceps tonight, but have a valid excuse. My 8yo wrecked her bike and had to take her to the dentist and ER. cry She chipped her 2 front teeth pretty bad and we thought she might have broken her arm. Thankfully it is not broken, but pretty tender so she has a sling to wear. She will have to have her teeth fixed, but they were kind of wiggly (yes, permanent teeth) so we will go back on Monday to get them fixed. I feel for her, I did the same thing when I was 10!!! I've since had a double root canal and porcelain crowns... it is expensive to chip front teeth. noway

Anyway... will do it tomorrow!! I need to chill out and hopefully get some sleep soon!! huh

Thanks!! It was a rough night, for sure. I'm glad it's over!! But just did want to say, that I *did* work out y'day, I did Insanity Cardio & Resistance and ChaLean's I've Got Abs. Back & biceps was going to be my workout w/ my dh. laugh

I ran 5.25 miles w/ a buddy this morning. I've had a crazy morning again, took my 10yo to the Dr. and she has a sinus infection. We both ended up getting the seasonal flu shot while we were there too. So Back & Biceps will be even more than the usual challenge tonight... and then I have a 7PM vball game!!!

Thanks, Sandy! She did sleep well and went to school this morning. I took her in a chocolate banana shakeology smoothie for lunch. wink She had a smoothie for her late dinner last night and one for breakfast too. Good thing it is healthy, so she's still getting in plenty of nutrition. She is on soft foods until Monday, and then we go to the dentist again to get her teeth bonded. cry It's an expensive process that I know well! grumble
