I have gone through other topics which mention how to modify bar code association.

I want to. Add a new item with the barcode along with it.
Will adding a new item myself and using barcode scanner, after it returns no matches.manually search my entry and select it?.

I did that a few times as well and didn't work until now.

It doesn't work for items that haven't been shared with the general database... which if it's an item you added via the apps you didn't have an option to share with the full database. Try adding it from the website sharing with the database and then you, if i am remembering correctly should be able to associate the bar-code with it.
