QUOTE: QUOTE: Sedentary gives me 2746. Lightly Active gives me 3146. 3146 seems awfully high. I was eating about that much when I gained all this weight. 67.4% body fat 35 years old 66", 342 pounds Maybe I did something wrong? Katch-McArdle gives me a BMR of 1460. Oh wait. Was I supposed to subtract 20%? That gives me 2516, which makes more sense. 3146 would be maintenance. Lol yea TDEE is the higher number. QUOTE: Had? If you're heavy that's a better equation to use IMO, as things based purely on body weight were probably not based on anyone >200 lbs. I noticed your subsequent self correction but when F2F shows a big discrepancy between the two BMR methods it seems a shame that it completely ignores what may be the more accurate one.

Absolutely brilliant post - and something I'll read regularly when I decide that "i'll just drop to 1200 for a little while to lose this last pound..."
Thanks!

If you have an HRM and it says you burn 2700 calories, just eat at a deficit from that. You shouldnt even need this post. But for clarification, No. I dont recommend eating back calories unless you are absolutely famished. Personally I burn about 14000 calories a week. If I eat at 1700 daily i'll consume 11900 in a week. Assuming a pound of fat is 3500 cals then heres to hoping to lose that pound....if only weight loss really worked like that. Certain days of the week I intentionally eat well above TDEE. 1) Bumps up certain hormones and down others. 2) Allows me to indulge and keep my sanity. (IIFYM) Case and point, last night I weighed at 137lbs and this morning I weighed in at 133.8lbs. Yesterday I overate by about 200 cals = 2220. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/food/diary/Helloitsdan?date=2012-07-02

And something of note on Body Fat Calcs. None are perfect. If the military one gives you way high reading then try the others.
