so i went for a motorcycle ride (and it is definitely more strenuous than driving) but my fit bit is say i climbed 150+ stairs LOL and lots of distance. so i need to correct it. do i do this on fit bit or MFP, and how?
oh and they say to use the 'stop watch when you start an activity, but have not figured how that truly helps (when i do remember it ;).
so confused... i have read in the directions on MFP for using your fitbit in conjuction with MFP, to always to log activity in MFP (not fitbit) to get it to calculate correctly, BUT on the MFP forum, people are saying to log transportation into the fitbit site. (and i do notice that motorcycle riding does burn calories still on the fitbit site, YAY!)
thank you for your help

Am I the only one that thinks it's cheating to log transportation as activity? I can understand counting walking, bicycle riding, etc but I'm not sure a motorized vehicle really counts. Seems like that would be part of your daily calorie expenditure. Just like cleaning and cooking...I know they are options but I don't count them because that's part of my daily routine.
I'd be interested in hearing how many calories it says you are burning, though. Maybe I should invest in a motorcycle...it'd be a lot more fun than standard exercise. :0)

Hi,
Let me try to answer this in chunks for you! QUOTE: so i went for a motorcycle ride (and it is definitely more strenuous than driving) but my fit bit is say i climbed 150+ stairs LOL and lots of distance. so i need to correct it. do i do this on fit bit or MFP, and how? If your Fitbit is saying that you climbed that many stairs please use the Fitbit site to remove it. QUOTE: oh and they say to use the 'stop watch when you start an activity, but have not figured how that truly helps (when i do remember it ;).
The stopwatch assists the Fitbit with a "reference" point for when you start and end your exercise. Our site currently does not account for "transportation caloric burn" but if you know how many calories that you have burned you can create the exercise. Just go to "cardiovascular" and then "create new exercise". Since this will be an individual estimate, it will be for your personal database and not the main database. QUOTE: thank you for your help

Interestingly fitbit does have motorcycling as a category, and while it did remove calories--you do still 'earn' some!! which makes sense to me. Hanging on to a 600 # machine at 75 mph is a workout, and i have the sore muscles today to prove it ;) When i have used the stop watch, i have not been able to find reference to it on the site when i upload :( it does for the sleeping bit, but that seems to be it. I need to burn a few calories, so i am going to go up and down my stairs for a bit now, so i will try it out again. but maybe i have to do something to access it. so far i have just had to manually record my start and stop times to use to record my exercise/ |

When you enter an exercise into our database we prompted you for your time started, this is used in conjunction with the above mentioned "reference point" to more accurately account for your exercise.
