It's a really good series (for the most part) and you won't be able to put it down. Although I think it's the same idea as Twilight in the sense it centers around some plain-jane, vulnerable, innocent girl and the guy has a dark, sadistic side that's appealing and dangerous.

Is it appropriate? That depends. For younger audiences, no it isn't. It's basically like some BDSM porno for about 1/3 (possibly more) of the book.

It was a good read, however I found it to be immature and too much of the Twilight factor played into it. If you liked Twilight, you'll probably like the 50 Shades series

Appropriate for non-prudish adults: yes, appropriate for teens: no.

The books are ok, not great but not bad. If' you're read the first Twilight, take out the vampire/werewolf stuff and add in BDSM and you basically have the story. IMO, there are many books that are much better out there but 50 Shades is certainly the fad right now.

So excited about Magic Mike, the night I go see that movie will end up being a VERY good night for my husband for sure. But back on 50 shades of Gray, my mom said that it's the best "turn on" book she's read in a very long time and my neighbor said she hasn't been able to get through a reading night without stopping for a little ummm..... well, you know. So I'm going to be reading it soon too, my husband just loves when I read the dirty books.

You don't need to read this book for the following reasons:

1. You like Twilight
2. You don't know what BDSM is
3. It's a horribly written book
4. Magic Mike is almost out
5. You like Twilight

I finished all 3 books in less than a week, I loved them. It has LOTS of graphic sexual scenes in the book but basically it is about a billionaire with a dark past who meets a young innocent girl (you will have to read the book to see how it turns out)! We call it Mommy Porn :)

I have not read them. Probably not going to. I am not into those kinds of books. I have a lot of friends that have read them and some loved them and some hated them. I guess it would depend on your style. If you are easily offended, you probably shouldn't read them.

Mmmmm....

And from what I understand 50 shades is akin to a badly written Harlequin version of Twilight... I would rather pay $1.99 for a smutty ebook than shell out $9.99 (that's what it is on Amazon right now) for the same thing.

eta: btw, I don't even pay $1.99 for something I can get for free with the right google search. wink

It's a phenomenal read. The amount perfection within the script is a genius write. Hands down, it will become the greatest 8th grade read read ever...Oh, and it may also land in the "relationships" category too

whats BDSM?

Well, when a man and a woman love each other very much and want to express that love in a slightly less vanilla manner than usual, they may participate in BDSM.

The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty is 10x worse than 50 Shades of Grey.
June 22, 2012 10:33
Every time I go to the pool I see at least 5 women reading that book. I have no idea what it's about it, but I don't pay attention to the fads. I read books that sound interesting to me. Just because something is super popular does not make it good. Just look at Twilight. My god.

Now THAT is some f*cked up reading right there! If you want BDSM and good writing, go for the Sleeping Beauty Trilogy. NOT my thing though... at all.
