I thought this was an interesting article and wanted to share it. Some of these were hardly a surprise (potato chips keep people fat? Quelle surprise!), but I think most people would be a bit shocked that so many of the food supposed designed to help people LOSE weight are having the exact opposite effect.

No foods keep people fat unless the person is eating too much of them. Cut portions down and lose weight.

I actually agree with all of them but the red meat. I eat lean, red meat pretty regularly. Yes, it is higher cal and higher fat than white fish but I believe it is a crucial part of our diets. I was prone to anemia and my consumption of red meat cooked in a cast iron skillet made a difference. I think one of the big problems with red meat is stuff that goes with it. If you eat a burger fully loaded with fries and a milkshake you are consuming a lot of cals, salt, sugar, refined carbs and fat. If you eat steamed veggies, quinoa, and a lean steak that is a pretty healthy plate of food.

Thanks for that......Interesting... especially the bit about the 'in-built' attractiveness of processed foods.

This makes a lot of sense.. I have cut out soda completely, barely any alcohol ( usually just a sip of someone else's . .. and still log it) anything fried for the most part. and don't eat microwave meals except in an emergency. Very little red meat too., although i will eat a lean burger at a summer bbq on a special occasion, and even then sometimes only half

The presentation says "low fat junk foods" and then gives no examples. What are they? sweets?

How come ignorance is not listed?
Foods don't make you fat. People eating too much food makes them fat. Guns don't kill people. People use GUNS to kill people. Get it? Good. |

Hate to break news to those that think that if you just ate healthy, you won't gain weight. If you overate "healthy" foods, you'd get fat. It's been proven time and time again that if you're body is in calorie deficit even eating processed foods, fast foods, etc., you'll lose weight. You may not be nutritionally in the best state, but you'll lose fat weight (along with some lean muscle too if you aren't lifting).
Moral of the story is ANY FOOD will keep you fat if you over consume it. A.C.E. Certified Personal/Group FitnessTrainer IDEA Fitness member Kickboxing Certified Instructor Been in fitness for 28+ years and have studied kinesiology and nutrition

The words of wisdom often go unheard. To paraphrase Mr. Ninerbuff... No one food "keeps you fat." Moderation is King. |

Cut portions down and lose weight. not true. you can still keep a higher fat percentage even being "thin", ie: "skinny fat." and that is because of diet, as well. mostly sugar. trans fats. etc. diet is more important than you think...
