Currently, the message box is optional when adding a friend. Many of my friends would support making this box mandatory so we receive a message from the person trying to add us!

Agreed. You can tell this is a popular idea just by the number of people who state on their profiles, 'please include a message with your friend request'.

I disagree, what if you already know the person and you are just friending then on MFP, why should they be forced to type something.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like receiving blank friend requests either. I just dont think a website should force their users to do something.

I feel the same way! I end up spending forever trying to figure out how they found me by looking at the forum posts they commented on or friends we might have in common...drives me nuts! |

You would have to take your profile off " hidden" in order to allow people to read that quote.

How odd, since you have your profile set to friends only. No one can read that quote.

or an option to require it.... so if you've checked the box, it's mandatory to send YOU a friend request. :)

I've asked for a message to be sent as well. I've had older men add me w/ no message...and then I go to look at their profile, and I see that all their friends are half naked women haha! DELETE! lol

No, if they don't send a message, it's helpful. I think it's a good way to weed out idiots. If they can't tell me where they found me, why the wanna be my friend, who we have in common, or that they like my ass, why should i add them?!

QUOTE: You would have to take your profile off " hidden" in order to allow people to read that quote. He's right, I checked it, No one can see your request for a message.... all it says when someone clicks on your name is: "Bumblepink83's profile is viewable by her friends only." Just FYI

By you quoting bumbles post and saying "I feel the same way! " I assumed that you had done the same thing

i'm just too lazy to type something. I've never typed anything. I've requested friends and they've accepted or declined. to date i haven't lost any sleep over it. who cares how they found you. is your profile top secret? i don't get the mandate request. just continue declining the fellow schmucks like i that refuse to type something.

QUOTE: or an option to require it.... so if you've checked the box, it's mandatory to send YOU a friend request. :) I dig this idea. Then for those who the concept seems to offend- they can simply not check the box. For those who want a message- bam- message required. Then we can have twenty new topics on the boards about jerks who check the box and idiots who don't. :) |

I think this is a good idea! How hard is it to say 'saw you in a foum', 'friends in common' etc. Standard reasons for adding! I've had FR from someone who states on his profile they don't accept FR's without a message, yet he sent me a message-less request! Very odd!
