TOPIC: Breastfeeding and weight loss

I am brand new here, and I have one quibble with the sign-up procedures that result in a target daily caloric intake. I am currently nursing my infant, which uses my caloric intake to provide him nutrition. However, there is no way to adjust your calculation for this additional caloric need. I understand that this may not be a common problem, however, it isn't uncommon, as many women wish to return to their pre-pregnancy weight after delivering, and may not think through the diet restriction to accomplish weight loss with nursing in mind.

I am in the same situation. Nursing a 3 week old. I am not looking to crash diet just to keep up with my caloric intake as I work my way back to my goal weight slowly. I need to keep my nutrition and calories at a good level in order to maintain a good milk supply but I do not want to overdo it. It feels like a catch 22.

Type in "breastfeeding" in the food database just like entering any food you would eat. That's what I do. I started with adding 500cals a day and now do 300cals extra. They also have options where you log breastfeeding each time you nurse. My baby is almost 3 months old and EBF.

entering it as a food requires you to enter it manually daily, plus it doesn't apply the extra calories across your macro targets so while you get an extra 500 calories you don't get it targeted per your macro settings.

If you go to
my home > goals > change goals > custom
you can manually increase your calories by the amount of extra you want, this way also ensures that the extra calories are applied across your macro nutrient goals. This one is a set it and forget it option unless/ until you lose 10lbs and get prompted to update your goals, which you can then come back and customize.
