You should probably go with what MFP gave you and see how you feel after a few weeks or so?

The thing is that when you are bigger you require more calories just to sustain everyday functions of life. You drop calories as you get smaller. If you start at 1200, and your body adjusts, where will you go when it's time to drop? 1000? 800? Sounds like a dead end to me!

If you can eat 2000 and lose, but choose to eat 1200 instead... That's like being offered a 100,000 dollar salary and saying "no thanks, I'll just take 30,000"

WHat she said. Just trust MFP. They do it based on your current weight and weight loss goal.

I wouldn't change it so drastically. I was shocked when I really saw how many calories I was actually eating a day. Maybe take it day by day, and see how you feel. Congrats on the weight loss already.

I'm 280lbs and mfp only gives me 1550. I've set my activity level to sedentary so I can eat back any calories burned from exercise. Are you sure your setting isn't on some super high activity level?

ok I had it set on lightly active and lose 2 pounds per week lol lol lol I am still trying to figure all this stuff out but I just went in and changed it to sedentary and 1lb per week and it gave me like in the 1600 range

MFP gives me over 3000 based on my weight. Ive been shooting for around 2000 per day and I cant get my self to eat much more.

1600 should be just fine for your goals. That's got to be in the neighborhood of your BMR so net that and you'll do well.

I was eating in the 2000s but wasn't losing. My doctor suggested between 1200 and 1400. Perhaps your doctor could give you a better idea of what's optimal for you based on your current health.
