TOPIC: scar, show it or not

June 08, 2012 20:48
I had a tumor that had started in my throat and even after chemo had to go through an 11 hour surgery. The tumor started in my throat and went behind my chest wall. It actually started to enroach on my heart. Because of the surgery, I have a scar across my throat and down my chest. I hate it. I admire you for wearing a bikini and being able to wear your scar proudly. Honestly, if you hadn't said to look, I wouldn't have noticed your scar at all. I seen this posted on facebook a while back and it is helping me deal. Hope it might do the same:
"From every wound, there is a scar, and every scar tells a story. A story that says, 'I survived'." Keep up the good work, hun! flowerforyou

I have this big scar on my tummy ( see pic) I got it fighting ninja midgets in Bolivia....or from having my gallbladder removed, it is kind of fuzzy.

I am already very reticent to wear a bikini because of my stretch marks, then you add the scar and I might just wear it in my bedroom. So please tell me the truth, would you be disgusted if you saw me at your public pool?

Not fishing for compliments, just wonder if it is as bad as I think it is.

You are beautiful. Scar and all.

I have a large keloid on my chest from a minor surgery many years ago. I'm having it removed, but it is very annoying so I understand your hesitation. Just embrace it! :)

Wear it. Scars are your history, and a mystery. I have made friends just from people asking about scars. My right thigh is a mess of scars, one runs across the top of my hip and down almost to my knee, with 3 that run parallel to that one. I'm not going to keep myself from wearing shorts in july for fear of someone seeing.

Scars are the tattoos that life gives you, so ROCK that sh*t like it's going out of style!! smokin

AND change the story EVERYTIME someone asks you about it!! I've got a gnarly set of scars on my upper arm from...

...witnessing a gang shootout in Compton.

...being attacked by a 160 lb. Rottweiler named "Harley".

...escaping the jaws of a tiger shark on the coast of Maui.

...getting mauled by a bad-a$$ honey bager.

...a Tijuana c0ck-fight that went sour.

...engaging in a butterfly knife competition at a local bar.

...hustling the wrong person in a race-to-nine.

...that new flesh-eating disease I'm inventing.

^^ LOL...one of these is actually true wink ^^

Scars kick ass! If that's the only one you have after fighting ninjas, well let's just say I wouldn't make fun of you. You look great - don't worry about it

I'd say a scar caused by ninja midgets removing an organ is definitely worth showing off.

Agreed!

Every scar has a story, it's personal and never ever shameful. It never makes me feel disgusted or like staring. It's just something you have on your body.

Besides, I'd be too busy checking out your body (not flattery, truth) to pay attention to any scar. Have you seen yourself? :) #hotabs.

this! you've worked hard for your body, don't let a silly scar hold you back!!

Wear it proudly. I have a huge 1 inch wide by 7 inches long scar on my back right shoulder. I got it from having a cancerous tumor removed 2 yrs ago. I was a little self conscious at first as well but I also make jokes about how it got there. wink
Example: Last summer at a beach a couple of younger kids were sitting behind me talking about my scar and making comments. Nothing rude, but def loud enough I could hear them.
I turned around and without missing a beat told them I got into a fight with ninjas in an alley while protecting some homeless orphans.

I wouldn't be disgusted at all. I'd notice it and perhaps wonder what the story behind it was, but I wouldn't think of your body as ugly just because of a scar. Don't be afraid of wearing a bikini, you're beautiful! flowerforyou

Huh? Scars dont make me think of anything. Neither do stretch marks. People notice these things a lot less than you think

You have to wear your scars like badges of honor. Some of the toughest stuff we go through leaves no scars behind to prove that we've been to hell and back. Show what you can and just know that you are one tough chick for getting through something like that.

I have 3 scars on my abdomen from when my appendix ruptured when I was 16. They bothered me at first but not now. I nearly died! It's one heck of a story and I'm proud that I came out on top.

I also have a much bigger scar up the back of neck from having my spine fused 5.5 years ago. Long, crazy story short, 15 years of awful chronic migraines being caused by 1 undiagnosed unstable vertebra. I had the surgery, went through one heck of a long recovery (have someone drill a hole in your spine and tell me what you think!), and now I live a life I only dreamed of for 15 years, and through those 15 years I never gave up the hope that there was an answer.

Wear it proudly sister! It means you made it through some tough stuff and came out kicking butt on the other side! =)

I have scars, stretch marks and a twat apron of fabulous magnitude, and I wouldn't let that stop me wearing a bikini. The police, on the other hand, may say something. But I reckon you rock it and have no need to feel self conscious about it. People may notice it, but only in the same way you notice people who wear glasses, iykwim. I say that you should tan those abs:-)

You go for it!!! If I had the chance, I would :) Life is short, babe, so live while you can!!

Scars get people talking, every one of them tells a story...look at how many people have talked on here now about the things that have happened to them, so you really shouldnt worry.
And personally, if you hadnt mentioned it first and i was looking at your pic and amazing body, i dont think id have even noticed it. smile

I have a c-section scar, a scar on the back of my thigh from a muscle biopsy and scars all around my um..bikini area from having about about 20 cysts removed in the last thirty years. If we let our scars worry us we'll never be able to relish in our accomplishments. It's just part of your body now. Embrace it.

And be proud of the knife fight you won while saving the elderly woman from that awful mugger!

I go to a lot of music festies every summer here in the UK. It always amazes me how many people, men & women, have some pretty gnarly scars. And that nobody takes any notice.
Scars are just a sign you've survived, never ever be ashamed of them.flowerforyou

Wear your scars proudly...they are part of you and tell a story of part of your life. I have scars from gallbladder surgery also, mine are just three separate cuts tho, and many more that I probably bore my kids with when we get to talking about themlaugh
