TOPIC: calories burned section on weight training

I was just trying to incorporate P90x into my exercise section using some calories burned estimates from the web and couldn't find a calories burned section for their weight training, so I had to list weight training as a custom cardio exercise.

Any tweaks coming?

Very much agree! The system is so good except for this exception. You guys are smart, there should be a way to calculate calories burned during strength training using our weight, reps, weight, and exercise type!

I have been weight lifting for a little over 3 weeks now and have never added it to my mfp, i only add my cardio. I do 33-50 mins of cardio 6 days a week and about a hour and a half of weight lifting 5 days a week (differant parts of the body everyday). I have been losing a solid 2 lbs a week with this routine and not once logged any weight training. I would not really worry about adding it.

I agree. I would also like to see my calories burned doing strength training

Would love to see this. I have only been on this site for a short time and it seems to be a fantastic way to track caloric intake and cardio workouts but it would be great to incorporate more features for those trying to gain weight/lean muscle mass -i.e. maybe optional body fat %, body measurement tracking, approximate calories burned through strength training, etc.

Overall, keep up the great work!

I agree- a system shouldn't be too hard to work out, and it'd be a great addition to the site!!

If you are looking to record strength training/weight-related caloric burn, it would be better to invest in an HRM. Everyone's workout and intensity of that workout is going to greatly differ. With the HRM, you are getting the precise caloric burn, heart rate, etc...

You could easily create under the Cardiovascular section, your HRM...

I did mine up as "Polar FT4 HRM Reading".

After a workout, Ill plug in the number of minutes, and then the caloric burn that the HRM indicated...

K.. I just went into the add excersise under cardio and typed in weight training in the search. It popped up weight training then you add the amount of time you spent doing it.It doesn't break down too much but its as close that we can find right now, I think you can type things in the search like sit ups, squats..just have to play with it a bit.smile
