TOPIC: Share recipes with friends?

Not only would a "share recipes with friends" feature be obviously beneficial. But I'd love to see shared recipes of members who are NOT my friends, too. I get bored with the same old food I always make and want to see what other healthy meals inspire me to get cooking.

Take a peek at one of your competitors (sparkpeople.com) who has done this brilliantly. I can enter all my recipe ingredients/details and then choose to either keep it private OR share it on their recipe section. I can also search recipes in their database by a number of parameters. Plus, they have a chef on staff who makes fantastic foods and shares the recipes. Frankly, this feature on sparkpeople has kept me on their site for over 4 years now.

But because my sister is on YOUR site and we're trying to encourage each other with some healthy living, I'm over here trying out myfitnesspal.com and am incredibly disappointed in the zero support for building out a user-generated recipe database that can then be added to my food tracker.

I'm giving this a go for a few weeks. But if I have to keep going over to SparkPeople to find recipes, what's making me stay here? Just a thought I'll be considering over the coming weeks.

Thanks!

This person puts it very well. This would be a very nice and seemingly obvious feature, especially for sharing with family and close friends with whom we eat often. Thanks!

Another bump for this as well- I'd love for my friends to be able to see my recipes, and also to get inspiration from what others are eating. Thanks MFP!

Bump! Love this app. Hate that I can't share my recipes with the wifey. Would also be great to see others recipes, there's only so many ways I know how to cook a piece of fish.

Lose it allows you to share recipes

AGREED.
My husband and I just started using this awesome program, and that was the FIRST OPTION we looked for that we couldn't find.

I make green smoothies for us both, and once I go to the trouble to add all the ingredients, I want him to just be able to use that too.

you "Can" as per responses on the first page. You can't share the recipe itself between accounts, it's not a feature of MFP. BUT if you log the "recipe" into your food diary and your diary is shared with your friend / family etc they view YOUR diary from THEIR account... and..

on the website
hit quick tools > copy to today
on the iOS and Android app
hit the wrench / spanner in the header with the meal name > copy to today.

that will copy the nutritional info of the recipe for your smoothie from your diary to his.

Yes, please add this feature. It's great that we can copy specific meals from a friend's food diary, but sharing recipes would be better, especially when there are differences in the portion/size you want to add.

Dear Posters,

Thanks for bumping this topic to make sure it continues to be on our radar to improve the ease of sharing recipes with your friends and family. We will definitely consider adding additional ways to more easily share your recipes for a future update.

Warm Regards,

Me too, me too! I have 4 sisters all on MFP. Some family recipes we all make exactly the same. Would be a huge time saver if we could just share all the recipes we have all figured out with each other.

I also want this feature.

I may be the only person here that feels this way, but here goes.

I am always looking stuff up in the database to add to my diary, and I come across great sounding ideas. The problem?? I can see what the total values are. But I have NO CLUE what is in it. I want to be able to see my friends and random peoples recipes that they have taken the time to make.

Please add a recipe feature. It would be great to click on a great sounding dish, get the info for the values and have a small button to link to the actual recipes.

And since I am adding my 2 cents here, when we add for our own recipes, give us a way to make notes. A little note box like we have on our food diary. Where we could put things like how to assemble it or what temp to set the oven.

Add me to the list of people wanting to be able to share recipes. My wife and i use myfitnesspal phone apps to track our meals, and it is annoying to have to put in the recipes twice.

As a side note, it would be nice to have the ability to edit recipe ingredients on the website. The app allows this, why not the website?

I too would love to be able to share recipes with friends. I realize that we can add a recipe to the myfitnesspal database to share with everyone, but it would be nice if we could just send it to a friend.

I'm on board with this too! I get the idea about sharing the diary info and meals however we aren't always eating the same things. Its very hard to remember when a meal was eaten and then find it to copy.

MFP is just going to have to give us the feature so we stop whining about it. It's is a great tool and only needs a few improvements to be awesome!!

I have to say I was not surprised to see this topic. I am however very surprised this is a rather obvious feature that is lacking, I can only assume there is a very good reason.. My wife and I just joined literally days ago and with so many Southern Comfort meals and passed down recipes, we find ourselves entering in a lot of recipes only to have to turn around and do it double because she cannot simply transfer it to me. +1 Bump to have this added!

I just started using MFP after watching my husband have great success with the app and forums. However, I am disappointed that he can not share all of our family recipes that he has painstakingly built over the last few months. Needless to say, we frequently eat the same foods. I don't want to have to copy from his diary to get the information. I want to have the recipe so that I can track all my data too.

Please add this feature. One of the reasons I switched from LoseIt to MFP was so that hubby and I would be on the same database.

Thanks

Yet another bump for this feature. It would be brilliant to be able to share recipes somehow.

Although I love this app, seems there are others better suited to tracking as a couple or family when creating recipes. Seems this topic has been running nearly 2 years and MFP do not seem motivated to do anything about it.

BUMP! Just started using this with my wife and it would be really helpful to be able to EASILY share recipes!

Let me just add myself to the roster of MFP users who would like to see this feature as well.

I've been using MFP as a way to store recipes. I have been somewhat lax in my food diary. But I love being able to insert all the ingredients of something I make into one place and have it spit out the nutritional value of it. I probably have 50-60 of my own recipes saved in my MFP account.

My wife has recently started using MFP to track calories. She's using her own account (because I keep telling myself I'm going to start tracking again), and it's a pain to enter those recipes into her diary. I have to add the food in my diary so she can paste it into hers, making what should be a 1-step process into multiple steps.

Not the end of the world, but this feature being lacking makes very little sense considering how easy it would be to implement. And if the fear is that some people wouldn't want to share, then make recipes private by default, and let users share with their friends if they so choose.

Honestly, it would be kind of cool to see something other than a friend's weight loss since last weigh in and how many days in a row I've logged in on my news feed. Like a cool new recipe! Just my two cents.
