Maybe a "Health Issues" or "Medical" one, or a Diabetes one...

Hi

My main issue with loosing weight is my self control and will power. I would love to hear and share tips about how you can keep focused and control your eating

Lots of good ideas in here. Here would be my list of new categories -
Local Connections - *only* for exercise buddies, walking partners, support, etc. not hookups
Progress in pictures - so the people who want them and find them inspiring can share...those that don't can avoid them.
Marketplace - Place to sell, exchange, or give away items related to fitness, weight-loss: equipment, clothes, DVDs, etc. Not open to selling products as a business/dealer

I think a lot of the rest can be done via groups: Diabetes, Bariatric, Serious weightlifting, Dating, etc Maybe have a place to post a notice about your group?

QUOTE:

The Arena.

When people fight on the boards their posting privileges are revoked EXCEPT for The Arena sub-forum. In there they'll either have to work it out with each other or fight it out until one submits.

I leave it to you guys to figure out the codes to add dramatic music, strobe lighting and fireballs.

Seconded

I think there should be one like: "For Debate" or "Gripes!"

How about a category for Personal Trainers or People who compete in competitions, We could post upcoming events and fitness expos in the forum and have help for people who really need help!

I am one month post bariatric surgery (surgery necessary for medical reasons). When adding my daily intake values I get the message that I am eating too few calories. I am following the recommendations of my doctor, so know I am on track. Is there a fitness pal area for bariatric surgery patients?

Also, I have a pedometer that I use daily (an Omron). There is no place in the exercise section for me to place "steps" walked during the day. I use that as a tracker to be sure I keep moving and would like to enter it into my daily diary.

Thanks.

There are 8 groups that have bariatric in their name.

For the "steps"
go to my home > check in > track additional measurements (bottom of the check in page) you can add a new field for "steps" at the bottom of the page that that loads.

Probably already been said, but I didn't want to read all 9 pages.

I'd like to see a category specifically for New Users with lots and lots of sticky topics for new users , to hopefully reduce the same questions being asked multiple times a day, such as:

Should I eat back my exercise calories?
Why doesn't strength training burn any calories?
Why didn't I lose any weight this week?
I'm a woman - will I get bulky if I lift weights?

How about adding a, "Pill Reminder" to the main screen just under the water glass. For my age group, I take a metabolism booster, and a multi-vitamin as part of my daily activity. I know a few folks, who take a lot more than that on a daily basis. Having a reminder screen there in my face would be a great help. Sometimes my mind slips, or something shiny steals my attention...laugh

I was going to suggest a forum specifically for challenges. Happy to see others were thinking the same. wink

I don't know about the forums but I'd love to see other options on the meal tracker to show healthy fats...not just fats all lumped in together.
January 8, 2013 11:01 AM
that one is
food > settings
set what fat you want to track, but it will use one of your 5 optional columns per selection

A "Groups" category would be helpful. Newbies seem to miss it in the Community tab toolbar menu.

The original post for new forum categories was in April. When are we going to see some new categories? I don't often use the forum features here as they are just so limited! I need to do a search everytime to find information relevant to my progress right now.

Restaurant talk forum.

A meal plan page would be great for sharing, not just one recipe but your meal plan for the week or even by the day.

I would like to see RIPPED USA work outs added to this site. I do this work out 4 times a week. It is a full body high intensity work out. and it would make it a lot easier for me to post all that it entails if it were just a part of the MFP site.

a Vegan / vegetarian forum. And it would be nice to crack down on the trolls and vegan lifestyle bashing in the forums in general..its getting old very fast!

I haven't seen any new categories created since this question was put out there in April, but I would agree that a 'Groups' section would be great and much easier to find than how it is set up now. Also, a 'FAQ' section would be very helpful for newbies.

Most of the rest of the suggestions I have seen are for special interests, like vegan, bariatric patients, etc, should all fall under Groups.

The Marketplace idea is good, except it would have to be closely moderated to keep the spammers out.

As for those wanting a "Just Kidding" or "sarcasm" area, That already exists. It is called "Chit Chat Fun and Games" Now if we could just limit all the snarky and sarcastic comments to that section, it would really be nice!
And perhaps there could be a disclaimer added to that section, for people to 'enter at your own risk', or 'Do not enter if you are easily offended'.

Athletic training or elite body engineering forum. For people who do things like run marathons or are working on competitive fitness or body building.

My wife has just found out she has diabetes so I found your site to keep track of our eating habits. I am a web developer also. I like the concept of your site and many of its capabilities. We will be using it to help us know what we are eating. I am mostly disappointed with the overall reporting of history. I would love to see a more robust reports section or maybe home dashboard that gives you a comprehensive overview of your history and your goals. Maybe a compound category graphs with multiple items : Carbs, Fat, etc. over time ? Having to create a new graph for each item is a pain for the end user.
