I JUST got my Fitbit for Xmas from my sister and stumbled on the fact that it would sync with MFP! You can imagine my excitement. Scanning some boards I saw some common comments that I wish were gathered in one place for all of us to talk about - from people like me, WORKING FROM HOME. I now work from home 4 out of 5 days and the weight is just creeping on.

I noticed a lot of people saying it's hard to get 10,000 steps in when you work from home. I'd really like to hear how people do manage that. How do they fit exercise in? And what have they found that they can do at home in say 5 minute bursts - just to get up out of the chair and add some steps/activity? There have to be as many solutions as there are people on MFP that WFH. I'm DESPERATELY looking for suggestions.

Would you please consider a WORKING FROM HOME board? I think it'll get a lot of traction..........

Thank you for considering!

I have 80 pounds to lose. I've lost 30 before and I hated myself. The skin sagging was horrible. I decided I looked better filled out than shrinking and having saggy skin. I'm sure others have questions about what to do with sagging skin. How have those that lost a lot of weight dealt with it? How did they find support to work past it so they could lose enough weight to get it removed. I'm sure some people have had it removed and I would like to know what that experience is like? Would they have chosen a particular season to do it in? What should we look for in a doctor to do this?

What about a board for this topic? SAGGING SKIN? I'm sure you could come up with a better name.

Thanks for considering this topic.

DERP, TWERP, & SLURP:

Derp: For those times when you have a question you already know is kinda dumb but you have it anyway and need real answers.

Twerp: A special forum just for trolls so they can stay out of all the other forums.

Slurp: A forum dedicated to all questions water. What is water? How much water? & evil evil water.

LOL just kidding. Really I think a couple ideas popped into my head.

SERIOUS IDEAS:

Medical Situations: A thread where people with medical circumstances that directly influence their cal goal targets can make all the threads they need to navigate the murky waters that are their conditions. This can include but not be limited to PCOS, Breastfeeding, Thyroidism, Bariatric surgery and "broken metabolism" I forget the real term. Maybe having a forum just for these circumstances can reinforce the idea that we are all aware there are very specific circumstances that change one's caloric needs but that very very few people actually fall into that situation and having a place just for them can alleviate some of the confusion when these circumstances are presented in the main boards only to be revealed several posts removed from the OP by the original poster.

Relationships: This category ends up in Chit Chat Fun & Games but the people involved feel compelled to post and then are usually quite serious and the posting of these in Chit Chat Fun & Games or Support & Motivation confuses the issue of what's really going on in those threads. This category would encompass every "just break up" situation as well as sabotage and people concerned with how their weight loss affects their primary relationships.

Stigma (for lack of a better word): This is a trend that also mistakenly ends up in Chit Chat Fun & games or Fitness and Exercise b/c it frequently is said to happen at the gym or while outside working out. It is for those circumstances where someone feels their workout has been impeded by a "hater" or even as far as an all out confrontational experience based on overweight. Again it's own thread could help avoid the confusion of finding it in CCF&G and thinking it was a joke, or being placed in Motivation & Support and thus only being open to "positive" commentary and not problem solving suggestions in case that's what the poster was seeking.

That's all. Thanks for asking the users for suggestions. That's a nice gesture.

I would like to see a badge system when you can earn badges for achieving goals. Example: Lose your first 10lbs, then the next badge would be when you loose the next 10 or 20 lbs. You can do the same with exercise and water consumption and ect. I have a lot of weight to loose and I think this would be really encouraging.

I think it'd be great if all forum topics had an option to vote up the good things - particularly relevant in the forum about updates for the app.

I'd like to see each state have a section...that way finding people that are in our area would be convenient. :)

IDEA/ Suggestion
It would be great for the app to suggest foods to eat depending on what's left on your Nutrient Details for the day. That way you are able to eat a more balance diet. The hardest thing is knowing what to eat. It's so difficult!

On the "Lose it" app it is very easy to track your daily calories and see it on a weekly graph so you can "save up" calories for an event. I wish we could have that same feature. I can see something similar on the phone but not on the computer. THanks.

this has probably been mentioned and isn't a new category, but is there a way for the mfp pick (unstarred) in the food database to show up on top then anything anyone adds below?

I suggest a category for those of us trying to gain weight - I'm not alone, and we aren't all body builders!

Could you please work on the Food section first???? So many improvements we have been asking for over a year. (Just since I have been on MFP) I have read suggestions over & over and nothing has been done thus far to improve it. ( I have tried the new recipe importer, can't get it to work) The data base is a mess.( personal recipes SHould not be allowed in the data base That is what there own recipe section is for!) Can't delete food ( except in frequent column) . That is just a couple of things, there are many more suggestions that have been made.

I'm new, so forgive me if this isn't the right place to make a suggestion. I like the idea of adding the pie chart to the site. I do use and like the chart that tells you if you've met the RDA requirement of vitamins, etc, but I think it would also be helpful to have a nutrition page to list the foods that are high in a particular nutrient. For example, the chart indicated I needed more iron and I had to figure out what my next snack was going to be that is high in iron. A list of these things would be helpful.

I REALLY love the feature that tells us "If everyday is like today you will weigh this much by this date. Very helpful and inspiring!

Overall, I love this site. I appreciate the guidelines and the people seem genuine : )

I've only looked around for a minute or two but anyway that you could possibly sticky all the different 'popular' type of diets to the General Diet/Weight Loss Help OR the Getting Started forums?

This way new people could find others on a similar diet and see their successes or stories.

Or I guess an separate specific diet forum for each diet, although that would probably clog things up pretty quick.

I think the right idea is in here somewhere, I just can't find it.

OH MY GOSH!!! You have GOT to get rid of the horrible horrible, "Marry, Make Out, or Pass" postings on this site.

The are degrading to everyone involved and for a site that is theoretically about health and fitness and body positivity, i'm stunned that you would have something so awful, so judgmental, and completely inappropriate on the site.

Please take it down.

A major weight problem is due to mood behavior medications most notably anti-psychotic medications. Severe weight gain is a side effect for many of the medications and weight gain is a side effect of almost all of the medications. I think a good forum would be 'Weight Gain Medications'. Granted many people probably would not want to expose themselves to posting on this forum due to the privacy of mental disorders, But, I think many people with a mood disorder or anyone taking weight gaining medications would READ this forum. The medications usually list around 8-10% of users gain weight but that is in a controlled environment. I can tell you from experience with people on medication personally and meeting them in the doctor's office and from reading psych forums that the percentage is much higher. The weight gains seem to be 50 pounds and higher. The medications also lower the metabolism rate due to suppressing factors. These suppressing factors also contribute to a sedentary life style.

How about a Tech, Gear & Apps category? It would be nice to have topics specific to technology and equipment separated out. Just my 2 cents. flowerforyou

a new category on vitamins and other supplements
June 29, 2014 4:41 AM
I would like so much to see a new separate category for fad diets, pills, shakes, juices, cleanses and the like.

And a separate category for baratric surgery patients, contemplating, pre and post op.

These two areas seem to clog up the forum at the expense of what I believe is MFP's philosophy: Calories in - calories out. Be strong. Be happy.
