TOPIC: nutrition reports

I wish this website gave a full nutrition report. I've been using MyPyramidTracker.gov for a homework assignment, but that website does not have as good of a food database as MyFitnessPal, nor does it allow you to add foods to the database. I was hoping to find a more accurate website for the kind of report that I need, but MyFitnessPal doesn't have an option for a complete nutrition report. It would be nice if MFP offered a full report of nutrients, so that I could get an accurate report of my daily intakes. Then again, it would be just as nice if My Pyramid Tracker took some pointers from MFP and allowed users to add their own foods to the database...

you can take a few minutes and flip through
food > settings
changing the 5 optional columns to show whatever it is you want to track, but as the info is largely user-entered if you pick a food item it may not have the info for items that "are not required" to be shown on the nutritional label... bananas don't come with a label or at least my bags of over-ripe ones don't and are often in the database with 0 potassium though they contain it...
you'll find the same for some tuna on the database, if the user who entered it only cared about their calories they may have omitted the fat and protein content, not to mention any of the vitamins / Omega breakdowns etc.

Meant to mention if you HAPPEN to have a supported smart-phone the app have a much more detailed display of nutritional info, I don't have access to the phone at the moment but it LOOKS like that if you can enter the nutritional item when logging the food it displays on the app... whether the info contains the aforementioned "extras" or not... can't help there but it is a way to see a better "full" report.

I also don't understand why there is no option to do a complete nutrition report, especially since the data is already sitting there. How helpful might it be to be able to see whether you are getting the right nutrients in your diet?? Not only would this allow you to see what type of foods to increase in your diet, but it would also allow you to give complete nutritional info to your doctor if necessary. I think it's crazy not to add this functionality. Maybe there is something I'm missing and it would be more difficult than I think but I don't understand why it's not part of the program. Given the time and effort it takes to weigh and log food, knowing what nutrients I'm lacking is something I would expect to see in a program like this.

I will likely search for another site that does this and switch if I find one.

Come on MFP! Pay a programmer a few bucks and create the report using the data you already have!

Sitting at my computer with MFP up on my browser I will often pull up the MFP app on my phone just to get this information. The website could really use a feature just like the "daily" tab on the android app.

Please update your reports tabs by letting us print reports. I have my students use the tracker on choosemyplate.gov. But this site would be more useful for our projects.

I agree 100% as well. Mypryamid has a great nutirent intake report, but their food database is not accurate, and very small.
Does anyone have ideas on how we can get Myfitnesspal to create a intake report!! It doesn't seem like it would take a prgrammer to much time. Please!!! happy

So I'm guessing MyFitnessPal admins don't monitor this too closely because it has been weeks since we've suggested this and have heard nothing. Oh well, I guess like they say "you get what you pay for!"

If they spent the time to answer every one of these posts, they wouldn't have time to actually overhaul the reporting section. Which they have said REPEATEDLY that they are doing.

I, too, would like a better nutritional report. I would also like to be able to copy/paste it to Excel, or import it into Excel. I used to use Sparkpeople (which had these capabilities), but I prefer more of the features on MFP than Sparkpeople (mainly that it adds exercise calories to your daily goal).

Anyone know why I am going over my daily limit in the protein column? I am in no way overdoing it. Is the limit pretty low? With the workouts I am doing, I think I actually need more protein....

If your protein is set to the default value (15% of calories from protein) then chances are it's probably low. I had to set mine to 35% to get to my goal of 1gram protein per pound of lean body mass.

Does anyone know how to correct an items nutritional facts?
August 08, 2012 12:24
If it's user contributed you can do it for ANY food item right at the point where you tell the system how much of what serving size to log to your food diary... just above the "how much" to add is the food name and RIGHT below the food name is "nutritional info" click that. You will be asked if the info shown is correct, if you click no you will be asked if you want to correct it, if you click yes that you want to correct it you'll be taken to the edit food screen where you can make changes.

So very noble of you to scold the commenters in defense of the indefensible. Problem is I don't think anyone here was asking them to monitor EVERY post as you imply has been done. For MFP to have a message board on their site and to ignore such a resounding chorus asking for an answer to a simple question is silly. The commenter is obviously right, they DON'T monitor the boards. As to your comment that if they monitored the board they wouldn't have time...blah blah blah. Thats nonsense. I don't think you understand how to run a business.Sorry, you shouldn't be scolding people when you have no idea what you're talking about.
