I have had a problem this morning with data on my fitbit account not being transferred to myfitnesspal - I've had this happen before and it seems to rectify itself after a few hours - I suppose we are reliant upon the communication between the two websites and if they are not talking to each other for some reason there may be these occasional glitches. Doesn's seem to be a general problem of any sort ?mad mad but annoying in the short term !

I am so pleased I am not the only one. I have about 600 cals of excess exercise due to come over... But nothing! the fitbit dashboard is up to date, bit not transferring data to MFP. Since it is also happening to others I will assume it's a technical glitch, and I'll leave it and check back later. Thanks guys :)

Same issue for me too - those systems are just not talking to one another. What a pest- I sure hope that they sort it all out soon. The fit bit page is a bit slow generally today - so have to wonder if the problem is at their end? I just had another fit bit user here in Aus contact me to see if mine were talking -seems like everyone has similar issues - although they may be a bit sporadic!!

my fitbit is not syncing with MFP please help

I've been having this problem for about a week! It is making me very cranky :-D I get upset when I don't get my exercise calories! It always catches up eventually, but I don't like having to wait hours to see how many calories I can eat. I love to eat! LOL

Same problem for me as well - this has been 4 days in a row having sync issues

mine just started today..hope it is fixed soon. I really rely on the two syncing as I am not sure how accurate the self logging of exercise is.

This is the 2nd time I have had a syncing problem. The other day it was a MFP issue, not fitbit. It took a while but they fixed the problem and it caught up pretty quickly. Hopefully they will fix this one quickly too

Gosh, I feel super lucky. I've had my fitbit for a few weeks now, and I've never had an issue with it syncing. It takes a while to sync with MFP (up to an hour), but it always works its way over. I hope y'all get the issues figured out!
May 08, 2012 16:49
My fitbit is also NOT syncing today
May 08, 2012 17:01
Mine has not been sycing correctly for a month now. explode It use to be that it would update (even without having to put it on the base) almost right away. It is so disappointing that Fitbit & MFP isn't fixing this issue. brokenheart Obviously it has been an issue for quite some time now and it is affecting ALOT of us. I am almost tempted to go to the other weight loss app. Sure wish the tech team would be more on top of this.....it sure is frustrating!!!! mad

My fitbit and MFP have been syncing fine until today. Were there changes made today with either program that might be causing this? Everything on the Fitbit dashboard is current, but MFP isn't showing any of my steps or calories burned. Ironically, I have my highest step count ever today! Guess MFP's not buying it . . . ; )

Sync worked tonight for a little while, then quit again. Counted some of my exercise earlier today but not what I did this evening.

This is getting old. Link is too unreliable to count on.

In reply to the person who said they wouldn't give their Fitbit up due to the syncing error:

Oh, Amen to that! My Fitbit got destroyed and I barely lasted a week until I could get another one. Love it! love

I am considering getting a fitbit. Are they any good (other than the problems yous are describing re syncing)?

I wouldn't give mine up for anything!! Mine was ruined when I accidently dropped it and my dog thought it was a treat! Got another one within a week. I tried several and returned them, then tried the Fitbit and I am sold on it.

This is getting ridiculous. I understand there will be finger pointing as to why this isn't working, but it's unacceptable. I'm currently having the issue where fitbit instantly updates on their website but it won't sync over to MFP. There should be a button and a dashboard that tells us of the status of the link (google apps status to see an excellent example.) This isn't rocket science, and I'm trying to base my food choices on realtime data. The last couple of days it won't update until the next day. If I go back in my diary, I can see it eventually always syncs, but the delay is too long. Please fix this issue!

Hi Folks,

I do apologize for the inconsistencies in the sync. I rely on my own FitBit for daily updates as well, and have also gone through a few days of non--syncing in the past. It's irritating as all get out.

Yesterday we tripled our capacity to handle incoming sync info from FitBit. We are working with FitBit to learn why sync requests between our sites are sometimes greatly delayed.

Both teams are aware of the issue and investigating. I hope that doesn't sound like a non-answer. I've seen some of the technical emails from both sides, and while it's WAY over my head, we're attacking it from both ends.

Regards,
Steven

I was just coming back to this post to say that it has noticeably improved when I saw Steven's post above. Much improved. Thank you. And thank you for keeping us up to date on the issue. If it stays this fast forever, then I think it is a problem solved. If it happens again, I would like some indication on the website of the status of the link. Thank you again!

Same problem for me. Syncing works one way only. Food entered into MFP goes to FitBit, but calorie burn is not updating to MFP.

You will not necessarily see a calorie adjustment every day. The calorie adjustment only appears if you have been more active than MyFitnessPal estimates. If you are not seeing a calorie adjustment EVER, try lowering your MyFitnessPal "activity" level in your profile. I'll include a full explanation of the calorie adjustment below

You burn a fair number of calories over the course of the day just by sustaining your normal bodily functions. Our estimate for how many calories you will burn is based on your weight, age, gender, and the activity level you report in your profile. From this, we subtract an amount of calories so that you will be at a deficit every day if you eat your calorie goal. Thus, you will lose weight because your body will need to burn some of its stored fat to make up the difference. We show this goal as your NetCalorie goal, and you are essentially counting down to zero from this goal, every time you log food that you've eaten.

If you log exercise, this represents EXTRA burned calories that our estimate of your normal activity has not accounted for. Because our goal is to keep you at a steady, healthy, sustainable amount of weight loss, you "earn back" these exercise calories as additional calories to eat. Exercising is like making a deposit in your calorie account. You make the withdrawal by eating. Because our initial calculation ALREADY puts you in a weight loss deficit, eating "back" the calories you exercised will not slow your weight loss, but it will nourish your body which is depleted after burning the extra calories. So, your calorie goal on our site starts at a number that counts down to zero as you eat, but exercise that you record pushes that number back up a bit, so that you don't undernourish your body.

The FitBit site counts UP from zero, as it calculates how many calories you have burned over the course of a day. If, when our two sites compare their information, it seems that you are being more active on a given day than our general estimate takes into account, you "earn" those extra calories as well. Again, the goal here is to keep you at a healthy, steady calorie deficit. The relationship between our site and the FitBit site takes into account any exercise you record. If, beyond our initial estimate of your calorie goal, and the exercise you log, the FitBit shows that you are being more active than we expected, then you earn those extra calories back. The way our site accounts for this is to add JUST the difference in calories to your exercise diary as a "FitBit Calorie Adjustment"

Because our site is counting down from a goal number to zero, and the fitbit.com site is counting UP from zero, you will never actually see, on our site, the number of calories that you see on the FitBit site. What you will see is the anticipated DIFFERENCE between what you're burning in FitBit's tracking of your movement, and what we expected you to burn based on our estimate, recorded as an exercise. The adjustment represents our projection of your calorie adjustment for the entire remainder of the day. As you are more or less active, the adjustment will become more precise. We base the projection on your activity level early in the day, and "assume" you will be "as active" the rest of the day. If this proves not to be the case based on later updates from the fitbit device, we'll raise or lower your adjustment to fine tune it.

If you look back through your exercise diary pages, you will likely see some days in which a FitBit calorie adjustment has been added, and others when it has not. The days where the adjustment appears will be the days that you were more active than usual, apart from any exercise that you logged as such using the MFP site.

Please note that the FitBit integration can only ADD calories to your daily need, so it may be necessary to lower your MFP profile's activity level one notch or more, to give the FitBit "elbow room" to do its work.

It is important to be sure that your profile information on our site and the fitbit.com site matches, in terms of your height, weight, age, gender, etc. so that the FitBit is calculating your caloric burn as accurately as possible.

Anna,

I just checked your account and I do see Fitbit Step data in the check-in area, and a calorie adjustment, for today. Have things returned to normal?
