Hi Folks

We definitely want to help you get your FitBit and MyFitnessPal accounts communicating correctly.

Please note that any issues with FitBit data not syncing between your FitBit device, the FitBit client software on your computer, and your FitBit account at fitbit.com are best resolved by the tech support folks over at FitBit.

Our site picks up once the data is showing up at fitbit.com and your two accounts are linked. You can quickly verify that your accounts are linked by logging in to MFP and visiting this link: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/fitbit/status

Our site checks fitbit.com roughly once every 15 minutes to pick up any new data there, and to send fitbit.com data about your food and exercise logged at MFP.

The single best indicator that things are working smoothly is to check if your "FitBitSteps" data here: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/measurements/check_in is within 15 minutes or so accuracy from the data showing here http://www.fitbit.com/

Sleep minutes depends on putting your fitbit in stopwatch mode overnight, and the calorie adjustment depends on several factors including your level of activity recorded by FitBit, and the amount of exercise you've logged at MFP.

Data sync between the sites can be affected by your time zone settings on each site, and your profile statistics. For instance, if your weight is different between the two sites, your expected calorie burn will be calculated incorrectly. You can check your stats and time zone on FitBit here: http://www.fitbit.com/user/profile/edit and in the My Home/Settings options on MFP. We do plan to synchronize weight updates eventually, but currently your weight should be updated on both sites manually when you check-in your weight.

If all of the above is in order, but you are not seeing your steps from FitBit appear in your Check-In data on MFP within 15 minutes of data updating to FitBit, this is the surest sign that there may be something wrong with your account. If this is the case, will you please reply to this thread and request that we check the status of your account? We'll see if our engineers can find anything unusual going on with your integration to fitbit.

Regards,
Steven

You should sticky this thread. There is lots of information here about the FitBit/MFP synchronization that people need to know.

Thanks, Steven. flowerforyou

Hey Steve

Is there any estimate of when MFP and Fitbit will be able to sync weight?

Thanks

Per your request, I am letting you know the fitbit isn't syncing now, even after disconnecting and reconnecting the device from within MFP. Thanks!

I should have mentioned: computer did sync with FitBit and shows new stats within the FitBit site, and I did wait more much more than 15 minutes. 4-30-12 CST 20:44 hours.

I am having an issue with fitbit syncing. The steps measurement is recording the latest record as yesterday around 1 pm. Any suggestions?

Also should have mentioned, it did sync earlier today (that was the 84 calorie adjustment).

The FitBit API throttles requests to 150 calls per hour... is that possibly what you're running into?

Just checked my MFP stats and my previous calorie count from FitBit dropped from 84 to 29.

It's 11:03 pm Central time. I just noticed a discrepancy in how FitBit and MFP treat Central Time:

FitBit:

"(GMT -05:00) Central Time (US & Canada)"

MFP:

"(GMT -06:00) Central Time (US & Canada)"

As there are no other choices for Central Time, anyone in Central Time is going to have a problem. I suppose you could pick an inaccurate time zone on one site to cause them to be the same, but this seems like a bad solution. I believe there is a weirdness for Central Time around parts of, say, Chicago, which may be the cause of this; as I recall, parts of Central Time are not consistent at some times of the year (but I'm not sure about this). I don't know how this is factoring into the syncing issue, however.

Went for a walk, came back, synced to the FitBit site, and not showing anything on the MFP site after more than half an hour. I'm a real live example of the error in realtime, if you want to have a look.

And now it's synced.

Forgive me everybody, for all the posts... it's just that Steven asked us to post when we had an issue so they could diagnose, so I'm doing that.

I think the number one helpful thing would be if the individual syncs would be itemized, as opposed to aggregated, so we could at least be able to determine if it had synced.

My fitbit hasn't logged any calorie adjustments to my exercise diary since last Tuesday. I've deleted and re-sync'd my fitbit to MFP yesterday, and http://www.myfitnesspal.com/measurements/ actually shows steps being recorded.

The page I'm talking about is http://www.myfitnesspal.com/exercise/diary/bhinmaine. Up until last tuesday it would log a calorie adjustment.

ahh this answered my question:

"Add to this estimate any calories of cardio exercise you have logged for the day. If the Fitbit number is HIGHER than our estimate+exercise, we'll add a "Fitbit calorie adjustment" to account for the difference. If the number is LOWER, you will not see an adjustment for that day. "

MFP hasn't synced today with FitBit.

I have found Fitbit essential in my weight loss, it reminds me to get off my backside and do something!

My Fitbit is not syncing with MFP today - the Fitbit website has registered my calories today and my exercise calories, but it hasn't uploaded to MFP.

Hi all,
I'm co spidering the FitBit. It it looks like you all ate having issues with it. I'm trying to decide if this is the best 1 to buy. I like how it monitors sleep. The Jillian Michaels armband seems good too and it monitors sleep. However, I'd have to enter everything on her site. I'd prefer to use mfp- I've logged my calories for 97 days in a row! Iove mfp! However, if your having issues w/ FB, I may not want to buy it. How do you wear it? Over your pants waist? Do you wear it all day? How do you sleep w/ it? How much time does it take daily to log everything and sync. I need it to be quick and easy. Nike also has a new bracelet band - however that does. It monitor sleep. Any comments would be great! I'm a working mom of 2 and need the FB to be easy to use!
Thanks all,
Mia

It is easy and usually works really well! I would buy it again and recommend it to anyone. Also, it is much smaller (more discreet and dare I say cute!) than most devices of its type.

I've had problems 2 days in a row. Information is showing up on Fitbit.com, but not syncing to MFP. I do LOVE my fitbit and MFP, hate issues, but can't leave without it! (By the way, it has been eventually (hours later) showing up after I go to the tools and unattach to my account on MFP, hours later it shows but I also had to act like I did activity on MFP, then it would sync with the fitbit and I'd just have to delete what I made up and the fitbit adjustment stayed)

Well, I can't really recommend the FitBit until they get it to sync.
May 3, 2012 12:37 PM
Mine worked fine until today, but no longer synching. When I check my step count on MFP it's several thousand out compared what's showing on my Fitbit Dashboard. If I unlink the Fitbit from MFP and then re-link it, it updates immediately, but it's a long way from ideal. Hopefully it's just a glitch today & will start working again soon.

Mine isn't syncing either...worked fine up until today...Please fix this glitch ASAP!!flowerforyou

I've noticed that if you complete your food diary before fitbit syncs, fitbit doesn't adjust.....you have to wait for the adjustment to be made before you complete the food diary.
May 3, 2012 1:22 PM
I FitBit. Haven't read the entire thread. Have had no problems with syncing between it and MFP. However .. you must authorize MFP as an App within FItBit. Have you done that ?

I

L O V E

F I T B I T ! ! ! ! !

I cannot express how MUCH I love Fitbit!

Occasionally MFP has issues syncing with Fitbit. I "follow" both MFP and Fitbit on facebook, and when there IS a technical issue they post it there.

Other than that, I have had no problems with mine!!

I strongly recommend Fitbit!
