TOPIC: linking my fitbit tracker to myfitnesspal

March 08, 2012 08:40
According to FitBit, I can link my tracker to myfitnesspal to transfer the exercise recorded by my fitbit to my cardio exercise on my myfitnesspal diary. I successfully made the link, but I can't figure out how to see what the fitbit recorded. Am I missing a step?

I'm having the same problem - it seems to carryover for my steps, but it doesn't show the specific activities I've logged.

The Fitbit / MFP thing is very buggy but no one on either side will admit to their side having an issue. I have brought multiple issues up on both forums and have never received a response from anyone.

As soon as I have one issue fixed, another pops up. I really think it's better to use them both exclusively mutually because they hardly work together.

From what I have understood is this:

Your Fitbit will track all of your steps, floors climbed, and calories burnt by walking (and even the calories your body burns by sitting still, since youre always burning some calories. The data that gets transfered to your MFP account is that of how many calories that you actually BURNED. So, when you check in and sync your Fitbit to your Fitbit account those calories are added to your Fitbit account and then (it takes about 30 minutes for Fitbit and Myfitnesspal to connect and update eachother) deducted from your calorie intake on My Fitness Pal.

-Example-
I walked around alot today, and I get home at 3pm. I have burned 200 calories from walking so much. On my Fitbit I see a large amount of calories burned because it has totaled the amount of calories burned by doing activity, plus the amount of calories burned total of today. The Fitbit will sync with my account and the large number on my Fitbit will be updated. Some time after that, those 200 calories that I had burned will transfer from my Fitbit Account to my MFP account. And where it says 'exersise' on my home page, it will say '200 cal' Showing that my Fitbit has transfered those 200 calories that I burned to my current food intake. Therefore allowing my Calorie intake for the day to increase. You can find the Fitbit's adjustments to your account by checking the exercise tab on the top of your screen. There under "cardio" you will see "fitbit adjustments" and "200 calories".

Now, WHEN YOU WORK OUT OR DO SOMETHING SPECIFIC- You log it in on MFP account. You just log the exercise that you did and to my understanding, Fitbit will recognize that and log it in on the Fitbit account. Just like your food. If you notice on your fitbit food log, it says "MFP food summary" or something when you look at the calories consumed. If you log in your activity, Fitbit will have a MFP adjustment to it as well. You shouldnt have to log your fitbit exercise in with fitbit because MFP keeps it updated with the food and exercise that you do, and Fitbit keeps MFP updated with your activity levels. Those adjustments going back and forth sound confusing, but they are really just making sure that every aspect of your day activity and nutrition wise are completely is spot on an accurate.

If you have any other questions or need some more examples, you can message me or email me (i'll PM you my contact info).

Let me know if there is still something youre not too clear on and I will try and help you out as much as possible.

My fitbit account is paired rather well with my MFP account. I seldom have any troubles with it, I can give you examples if you need it! happy

Best of luck to you MFPers

thanks - that's helpful....so i think i have it correct, that i synched it, and it only says 1300 calories burned but 0 steps and 0 floors (and i walked all over the fields today and my individual fitbit says 10800 steps....and nothing under MFP at all...so i need to wait 30-45 min for the website to chat about it and check back??
