Grammymax,
YES!!! I'd love an online Curves workout buddy!
I've been a member for a little more than 2 years and haven't managed to lose much weight, but definitely have more strength, endurance and flexibility. I was doing really great last spring/summer, then my husband came back from 5 months in Iraq and the pounds just crept back to pre-deployment weight and then 5 more :(((( I'm determined to get rid of ALL the excess pounds and keep them off - it was a real shock to have to buy new work pants because my old ones were too tight in the waist!
I feel much better about myself at 120, just trying not to get discouraged because it's such a SLOW journey! I usually hit Curves M-W-F and try to walk 3-4 miles on T-TH nights now that the weather's warming up. Hopefully Kansas had its last snow of the season last weekend - what a blizzard! Looking forward to chatting with you!

Great. I just rejoined this morning and feel so much better after working out. Does your Curves have the Smart Machines? I haven't gotten my first 'assessment' for them yet but hopefully by the end of the week I will. It seems like it should be very helpful to have the workout programed and find out how many calories I'm actually working off!
Kansas has really been hit this winter and spring. I'm hoping you're headed for better weather as well. My son lives in Chicago and he has been very cold one day and then the next it gets up to 60 degrees! Crazy weather all over the US this year! I'm in Oregon and the rain is here again but I did get a couple of days to work in the yard in the cloudy days earlier so I'm enjoying the green grass through the rain
Let's keep in touch and keep each other accountable to working out and drinking that water Or whatever you need to work on
Esther

129.5 pounds..........FINALLY broke the 130lb barrier this morning....... yippee!!!
Now if I can just keep moving in the right direction..... Our Curves has been closed since Friday; moving into a new location, twice as big! Can't wait to see what it looks like tonite! I expect it'll be packed since it was closed for a few days. Yes, our Curves has the Smart workout. I like it, except the random days when it increases me by 23 or some stupid number like that! That makes for a killer workout since the machines' resistance is directly tied to your PI and the increase/decrease each day. It IS nice to see how many calories burned, even if I don't agree with the number every day. Makes it easier to log the workout into the exercise here at MFP. My only complaint is that Curves doesn't really have something that works the abs more - but I have an AbRoller at home and am trying to use it for 100 crunches every other day. Skipped last night; the dog had surgery to remove a cracked tooth yesterday, so she was a big crabby last night. Drinking enough water's not a problem for me. I have about half of a Coke Zero in the morning at work to get my minor caffiene fix, then drink 2-3 camelback bottles of water the rest of the day, plus only water at meals unless I get a lemonade at a restaurant. Having a Brita filter at home and at work makes it much easier to drink water - it never has a nasty aftertaste, and I'm not putting plastic bottles into landfills! Well, I really ought to get some work done........ have a good day, and keep drinking that water!

Good for you! I will never see that number on my scales but I will be happy with 145 or 150.
The machine at curves that you sit and do the twist from left to right (10 to 2 on the clock) works my belly as well as the one that you sit and push down and pull up on the side (if I bring my legs up when I go down it helps also). Don't know the names but I can feel those working on my stomach. Do you have those machines? Well, off to curves. I'll check in later to see how you liked the new workout space. Enjoy. Esther

Hi Esther!!
The new Curves facility is AWESOME!!! Easily twice as much space, an entire separate room for cubbys, changing and stretching, much bigger area for weigh-ins and consultations. Rose (the owner) and her gals did a fantastic job. I sure could tell I hadn't worked out since Friday - the muscles were screaming by the time I was done with my workout, but I still broke the 400 calories burned mark. Would have liked to see closer to 500 calories burned, but that'll take a few more days of consistent workouts. I also had a metabolic test done yesterday at the health center, and was quite surprised to learn that I really should be eating about 200 more calories per day than I thought, which is probably one reason why I wasn't losing; my body was in starvation mode. So....will add more good calories to the diet and see if the scale keeps moving in the right direction!!

Hi, there from sunny California! I just joined Curves this week and so far I really like it. I'm getting my Smart assessment tomorrow morning. Can you guys use another buddy?

Marla - glad the club is looking good. It does make a difference to have enough room to move. The two Curves clubs I've been to are both really low on extra space. I love the staff at this one though. They are really sweet and encouraging.
Welcome yeahbuddy. Of course we can use more buddies. The more the better to help to keep us all on track. I worked out today for the first time with the smart machines - wow! I did the initial workout on the machines to get my PI set up and then I did the full workout. I was ready to come home and shower and put my feet up. It felt really good though to know that I was really working it! Esther

Hello everyone, I would love to also be a curves buddy. I joined about 6 weeks ago and I'm also doing weight watchers. When I was measured 2 weeks ago after working out for a month I lost 6 inches in total. The smart system is awesome. I'd love to be buddies with everyone, somedays it's so hard to push my butt to go, I do it but I'd love a buddy to push me also. Let me know if youd like to be buddies, the more the merrier. Thanks Kerri

Esther, thanks for the welcome (and welcome to kerri, too). I will be going on Mon, Wed, Fri mornings before work. I have my session tomorrow morning to set up my SmartCurves program. I'm excited about it 'cause it's like getting a personal trainer without having to pay for one
My weight and measurements will be done on the 24th of each month so I don't have any updates there yet. I also belong to 24 Hour Fitness but just go there for my cardio. I did get my measurements done there a few weeks ago and it's probably time to get them redone. I'll have to check and if I do get them done again, I can report those changes. There did appear to be a difference in my measurements between 24 Hour and Curves.

oooooooooo
May I join y'all? I've been going to Curves for 6 years now, sometimes more faithfully than others.
Since November I decided to get serious & I love the Smart system, too. It's great beacause I get started singing & joking & forget to pay attention to how hard I'm working. This week I went M-T-W-Th.

This week I went M-T-W-Th. That's great that you went four times this week. I wanted to do that, too, but wasn't able to. Maybe next week. I'm really anxious about developing my strength.

I'm so happy to have a curves group to chat with.
I go M-W-F and try to go Sat as well but I'm not always able to, depends on if my daughter has an activity that free's me up to go. I'm getting my period today so I'm less eager to go but already this board has helped because I see all of you chatting about it and now I'll get my butt there. I've been doing the 3 - 4 times a week steady for the 5 weeks I'm going, this is the first week that I've been reluctant to go. Isn't the smart system great, like someone said, it's a personal trainer without paying for one.
So glad to chat with all of you, look forward to keeping the chat going. For those going today, post and let us know how you did |

Welcome oshow, yeahbuddy, Georg and others! Always happy to welcome more!
Curves has made a big difference in my life - the support and empathy you get in the 45 minutes you spend in the club is a huge boost; especially when you don't get any encouragement from home. 129.5 for the 3rd day - holding, but at least not increasing! Had to attend a conference yesterday with a buffet luncheon Took small portions, but not much healthy and low cal there.
It feels SO GOOD to see "12" as the first 2 digits on the scale Headed to Curves tonite after work - so glad the move is fnalized and I can get back into my M-W-F routine again.

hey curves people! i am a member too. i joined march of 08. when i joined MFP and started a weight loss contest at work 1/5/09, i had only been to curves about 45 times. ugh i was mad at myself. so, i pumped it up and lost 7 inches and 3 pounds of body fat the month of february. i also won a free month by entering one of their contests! i do like it there so much. my arms are toned now and i can feel my whole body is stronger.
today was the last weigh in here at work. i lost 10 pounds since 1/5/09. NOT what i WANTED but i was not 100% all of the time. my ticker is based on my home scale. i go 4-5 times per week on a good week. i like going because regular gyms make me feel confused and overwhelmed. plus the ladies are GREAT!

Wow - this is so cool. I'm glad you all found this thread. I think it will be fun to encourage each other to keep on keepin on!
Welcome to Georg and oshow.
yeahbuddy - I used to go to 24-hour but felt really intimidated by the buff men and the tiny women! I only ended up using two machines so I decided to go back to curves. You are really determined to be going to both! You're amazing to me
georg - I know what you mean about getting distracted. Today when I was on my last machine I was talking and didn't see the end lights so I tried to do another machine. But, the one I was talking to told me she saw the lights blink. Good think she was watching. I might still be there
oshow - I know those days when we don't want to go it's so easy to talk ourselves out of it. Good for you for changing you attitude and getting in there to workout. I always feel better when I get done.
mkwood - Congrats on taking small portions. It's not always available (the low cal/low fat) but when it's not the small portions are a good alternative. I'm sure you'll be fine if you just keep on track for the rest of the week. Good job.
I love the smart machines too. However, I just started with them and I'm having a hard time keeping that steady green light going! I find that I'm blinking green or solid orange a lot of time! I'll get the hang of it eventually. I'm going back tomorrow for my 4th day this week. Saturdays are hard because they open later and for a shorter amount of time! Have a great day. Esther

Grammymax,
It's almost impossible to keep the lights green on all machines for the entire workout. Each day you log in you'll see a message that says what your new PI is and whether it increased or decreased that number. If it increased, expect to see some orange on the machines you increased on last workout, because the resistance increased on those machines. The whole system recalibrates each time you work out, based on your past 10 workouts. You'll get the hang of it.... it just takes about a month. Yeahbuddy, You have more self-confidence than I do if you go to a 24 hour with the workout junkies!!!! That's why Curves works so well for me - no gym bunnies with perfect bodies. At 46, I know I'll never have a "perfect" body, but I just feel so intimidated anywhere but Curves. Heather0mc, Don't get discouraged if you don't continue to lose at a quick rate - about 1lb per week is the healthiest way to take it off and keep it off. Remember..................you're burning fat and building muscle in it's place, so you may not see the scale move but the inches should decrease. I'd rather see inches lost instead of weight lost, but I'll happily take either

Thanks, grammy. The same reasons you quit going to 24 are the same reasons I only do cardio there (at least that way I can tune everyone out and just zone on me). Very intimidating trying to figure out the weights, how much to lift, which machine is best, yadayadayada, blahblahblah. I got a killer deal when I signed up there and I just couldn't pass it up. So, I decided that it was time to start the strenght training but just didn't know what to do. Then I saw the commercial for SmartCurves and that was the answer to my problem. So here I am
A big welcome to everyone else
Today, I got my SmartCurves program After the set up I only did one round because I had to get to work. I will be doing my first full workout with it on Monday and will let you all know how it goes.

And trust me, I'm no gym bunny! The one I go to is (ok, giving away my location, here) in downtown Sacramento, CA. It seems like everyone and their mother goes to that gym between 4:00 and 6:00 (another reason I only do cardio. I don't think I could get any weights even if I wanted to). I have to go to that one, though, because I work downtown and there isn't any other one between here and home

I failed to write down what I burned but I THINK it was 464
I am just glad I got up and got to the club early and now I have the rest of my day to work at my flower planting and chores. Have a great day. If you can't get to curves just work at something else, go for a walk or whatever. Esther
