My suggestion is to create a tracking column that is addable in settings that tracks Net Carbs. I am on a LCHF diet (as are many others) and I try and keep my Net Carbs below 20. However, with the current settings I need to add fiber in a column and then manually subtract it from carbs to track this.
I think this would be a highly used feature for people like me on this diet. On a forum for this diet, people constantly suggest MFP to track our fitness and calories and it is one of the best sites I have seen. However, I also see many people not understanding the concept of Net Carbs and thinking they are way over because there is no net carb tracking option available.
Thanks for your time!

I'm tracking them manually as well, and subtracting them off, but this feature wouldn't be hard to implement and would be quite useful to a lot of people.

Sugar alcohols also need to be subtracted. I think this feature would be a great idea too!

I also manually work out my net carbs since I am following the Atkins diet.
However, my biggest problems is that the makers of this website and its users seem to have no understanding that nutrition labelling standards vary by region. The Total Carbs value differs from region to region - USA labels include fibre, whereas UK and European labels exclude fibre. So ignoring sugar alcohols, the UK and European labels actually list net carbs - including UK Atkins foods - whereas for USA labels you have to deduct the fibre to get net carbs. This means that I have to carefully check the nutrition for every food selected from the database - the total carbs figure entered by users in the database sometimes includes fibre and sometimes does not - the only way to know is to check the nutrition label for that product. People should of course only enter total carbs NOT net carbs. The website designers really need to make this clear to users at the point they input nutritional values. Better still, people should be able to choose the region the label comes from, so the program could then adjust depending on if that region lists total carbs including fibre or not. I'm generally disappointed about the poor reliability of the database of nutritional values - I have needed to correct the values for most foods I use from the database - other frequent mistakes (for example) include the value for 30g being listed under 100g. It woudl be good if users could choose between net carbs and total carbs as a setting then use that setting when displaying / inputting nutritional values and daily reports. Taking account of sugar alcohols would of course help as well.

I also wish this was a feature in the tracking. There is no extra data needed - the application just needs a tiny bit of code by a programmer/web developer. Please add this feature !!

Also - may be helpful to have a comments area - so we could track something special; for myself and others with strict diet needs due to medical reasons, tracking the time would be very helpful. Another feature that would be great is and export to excel! |

In the meantime, you can use this custom script to display net carbs and percentages:
It comes from this site: http://cavemanketo.com/configuring-mfp/ The script is here: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/124645 ****** Remember this script REQUIRES the following columns: Fat, Protein, Carbs, Fiber! Install: Chrome: Just click install up there ------^ and then click continue down there v--------- Firefox: Install Greasemonkey, then click install. ****** |
