It definitely does. I'll ask our team to test on that hardware. Can you let me know which release of honeycomb? You can usually go to "settings" and "About Device" or "About Phone" to find out.
It should say Android Version 3.x .. Can you fill in the details for me so we can test it properly at our end? Thanks! |

Upgraded from an iPhone 4 to a HTC One X. Loving the upgrade in so many ways - except for anything to do with the camera.
In this instance, scanning. Big barcodes aren't so bad, but the narrow ones like found on Graze boxes, I could be sat there trying to scan it for 10 minutes. The red scanning line flashes green on and off as it struggles to find it despite it being very clear and in-focus on the screen. On the iPhone I could just wave it in the general direction and it'd pick it up no problem. I think it's more of a scanning difference than a phone / Android problem (the iPhone seems to use something else that draws a box on the screen - maybe it uses the excellent RedLaser as a scanning library while the Android version uses its own thing?) but it's a real pain. |

QUOTE: QUOTE: Does the scanner feature work on Android tablets? When I push the barcode code the app crashes...I get a sorry, the application quit message with the option to force close or report. Hi, Can you please let us know the model of the tablet, and what version of Android is installed so that we can do some testing at our end? Regards, Steven MyFitnessPal Staff I am also having a very difficult time with the scanner function. When I choose the scanner, my screen goes black, it sits like that for up to a minute or more and then I get an error message that says (process com.myfitnesspal.android) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again. Then it gives me the option to force close. This is a relatively new issue. My scanner used to work great! I have a LG Vortex, android 2.2.2 Please fix this. I love the scanner function and want it back.

I upgraded my MFP app last night and the scanner icon is gone. Not an option anymore for some of us?

As long as you're running an up to date version of the app, the scanner feature should still be available for all users. I've included a link below in case you need to check to see if you're running the most current version.
The Barcode feature is to the right of the search tool when you're adding a food item to your diary. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.myfitnesspal.android&hl=en hope this helps! Joshua MyFitnessPal Staff |

Joshua MyFitnessPal Staff Yeah, the barcode feature was to the right of the search tool until I upgraded the app, as I mentioned. And now there is nothing to the right of the search tool. I followed the link above and am told that it is installed. I can't imagine Google Play would tell me there was an upgrade available and then actually install an older version.

Hey guys Ive got a problem with the scanner on my iphone4 it does not scan any product at all. Ive tried at least 10. I tried troubleshooting to check if the camera focuses and i found out it doesn't. When I try using the scanner the barcode is way too blurry up front but when I move it further it gets clearer. Though I did downloaded another barcode scanner and it works for that, scans everything perfectly at a distance which the barcode is clear enough. Maybe you should change the app so it works if the code is a bit further away please. I really like this app
EDIT: I checked the front camera and it actually has better quality than the back camera.. my phone must be broken. Is it possible to scan using the front camera?

I really like this app EDIT: I checked the front camera and it actually has better quality than the back camera.. my phone must be broken. Is it possible to scan using the front camera? One thing that can go wrong with scanning on an iPhone 3GS or later is that in some cases the auto-focus gear that focuses the camera lens becomes inoperable. Our software "knows" which phones should be able to auto-focus (older iPhones can't) and it attempts to focus the lens to read the barcode. If your lens is not adjusting correctly, due to a physical issue, it can cause problems with the barcode scanning. Will you try two things for me? First, launch the camera app. Frame a shot with both near and distant items in the shot. Tap the screen on a nearby object, then in a moment tap the screen on a distant object. You should see the image blur a bit, then resolve into sharp focus on the object you tapped. If this does not happen, there's definitely an issue with the lens gear. Please let us know. Regardless of the success of that experiment, please also try the following. When you activate the barcode scanner, initially hold the barcode quite close to the rear-facing lens. Then, slowly move the barcode further and further away form the phone. Don't worry about matching the size of the barcode to the scanner guides, just keep it centered and slowly increase the distance fom the phone, and see if at any point the image "catches" and the scan takes place. I look forward to hearing the results of these experiments, and I do apologize again for any inconvenience. If there is a problem with your rear camera not focusing, Apple will definitely be able to help you resolve that issue. Unfortunately, as long as our app detects that the rear camera SHOULD have the ability to focus, it will assume it can, and the scanner won't work in the absence of focus... |

I'm asking our Quality Assurance team to attempt to test this configuration of hardware and software. In the meantime, if you contact us directly at http://www.myfitnesspal.com/welcome/contact_us we can find a way to roll you back to the previous version in order to restore scanner functionality. Just mention a need to roll back to Android app version 2.2 in order to return scanning feature. |

Since the scanner button has never worked for me, I don't see any point in rolling back to that version unless something has changed that will make it suddenly start to work for me. If you can verify that the previous version scanner feature will work on my tablet now, I'll do that, otherwise I don't see the point. And won't I lose the other added features, i.e., being able to view friend's food diaries through the app.

I looked at the specs for the Archos 8o G9 and noticed it has only a front-facing camera. This may have been the cause of the initial crash, and it may be the reason the updated app is not showing the scanner option. I'll double check with the developers, but it strikes me as likely that the app is looking for a rear-facing camera to offer the scanning option. But I'll see if we can get it working with the front camera on this device in a future update. |

I, like so many people on this forum, also have problems with the barcode scanner. It takes minutes for the scanner to recognise a barcode and often it doesn't recognise a barcode at all. The ZXing barcode scanner works like a charm and recognises a barcode instantly.
Can you please please please update the MFP app to use the ZXing barcode scanner? Or at least give us the option to chose which barcode reader to use? I chose to use MFP because of the barcode scanner. If I can't use it I will have to switch to another app. Kind regards, Casper |
