Am I reading this right? We need to download an app to be able to scan the bars?

The "MyFitnessPal" app contains a bar code scanner that will scan and research the food product you scan.

When you "add" a food to a meal, there is a button in the upper right corner of the screen that looks kind of like a bar code. Press it and the scanner will come up. Hold the red guideline on the scanner across all the bars in the bar code and it should read it if the bar code is flat and still.

I have been having some issues with mine but I believe it is related to the autofocus feature on my android phone.

I bought an Android phone in order to use the MFP app.

How ironic that I now use the "ColorNote" app to record what I eat, and then enter it into a web browser when I get home

Only timeit struggles is when the Baroda is on a plastic sheet/bag and its wrinkled.

plastic wrappers are not good for my phone (Sony X8) but labels rock :o)

(Makes a reminder note to check out "ColorNote" app when I get home.)

Thank you. This is the explanation that I was looking for.

Dear Android App Users,

I've posted two images below to help to illustrate the correct use of the scanner in the Android App. Please let us know if you continue to experience scanning issues after applying these suggestions.

Most importantly, you must make sure that the red line in the scanner window is lined up to run THROUGH all of the bars of the barcode. The UPC bars should be running vertically in your scanner window, and the red line in the scanner should run horizontally, crossing all of the barcode bars.

If the red line is running parallel to the barcode bars, the barcode will not register.

So, in good lighting, hold your phone's camera head-on to the barcode, with your phone in portrait orientation and the barcode reading left-to-right on your screen, and you should get consistent results.

I'll leave this post unlocked in case these instructions don't resolve your scanning issues. Let us know what your experience is, and we'll make every attempt to resolve the issues swiftly.

Is Android app the only barcode scanning application?
How can we get feature request to the developers?

My daughter just got a i phone and she is able to scan food and get all the information. I have a black berry and i loaded a scanner on my phone but it still doesn't work like hers (where it shows a scanner on the right side of something she is trying to load to a meal). I'm sorry, but I'm not that good with phones - do I even have the right kind of phone for this? Thanks, Jo

I can sucessfully scan barcodes, but I live in Latvia, so for all Latvian products there isn't any product assiocciated with barcode, so my question are: Is it possible to add products with barcodes to the library?

This morning I added a few foods with the scanner. A couple hours later, and I can't even find the scanner. It appears the option is no longer available to me. Please tell me this is a quick fix.

Good lighting is key.... also make sure you have the most updated version of the barcode scanner...

Android scanning problem fixed - PERMANENTLY.

Upgraded my Android to an iPhone 4S. Just like everything else with this phone, it works FAST and SMOOTH. It's like driving a Mercedes compared to the Chevy Cavalier that was Android. Now I can actually scan my meals using MFP!

I am still having problem with MFP scanner. It works GREAT for other scannings but not MFP... it keep going red/green/red/green so I give up... It doesn't make sense that it works great and fast for my prescption and such but not for MFP,,

It used to scan so good, then the update (Nov or Dec) came along,,,,,,,

Am I alone? I have android - Samsung Intercept.

Hi,

Can you please let us know the model of the tablet, and what version of Android is installed so that we can do some testing at our end?

Thank you.
