lol thats a very tough one. i have never wore one in my life... i have seen women wear bikinis and have a 40 inch waist or larger!!!.... wear a swimsuit let alone a bikini and have big thunder celluite thighs... i personally wouldnt wear one unless i had decent porportions whatever size that is....

I also think it has a lot to do with waist size. Currently mine is a 35.5 and I would never wear a bikini unless I got below a 30.

i feel like if your waist is under 35 inches, you are good to go!

I have hips almost exactly like yours except I think my torso is a bit shorter! I hope I look as good as you some day!

I don't think that string bikini's look particularly flattering on anyone, some things should be left to the imagination. However, a cute sporty two piece, or tankini, or boyshorts looks good. I just hate going to the beach and seeing people wearing what looks like a skimpy bra and underwear! Just my personal opinion though!! :-)

It depends on tummy bulge. My mom was 200lbs when she was younger but has no belly at all...she was flat even though she was heavy. She has a picture in a bikini somewhere and she looked AMAZING!!!

No size or age limit in my opinion - Just make sure you find one that fits well and supports you up top if you have big boobs.
I've had size 16/18 bikinis (Aussie sizes, different to US) - they're just harder to find and not so many options.
I've decided that if I'm fat, I'm fat - a tankini isn't going to magically make me thin!
And I've been inspired by European women - I've met women from Europe of all sizes and ages who unselfconciously wear a bikini - hurrah!

Australian size 14...which is US size 10, UK size 12.
not in all circumstances but as a general rule imo

i haven't read all of the replies, so forgive me if this is repeated.

watch Norbit. that (IMO) is too big for a bikini. when someone has to ask you if you're wearing bottoms because your back fat and twat apron cover your pants, that is too large for a bikini.
anything smaller than that i reckon is a goer!

i'd wear a bikini or a tankini- but i wear shorts too because i'm more self conscious of my thighs. even when i was a UK 22, i'd wear that no worries. as long as you're comfy and not spending all of your time trying to breathe in, then you're good to rock it!

I sure am hoping I'll be wearing one next summer...it will be our first family vacation to the beach and I'd love to get some sun on my belly!

For me? I packed a UK size 18 on holiday and was not going to wear it. However, on holiday in Corfu, I saw a lady strip off to bra and pants (not matching and very grey) she wasn't bothered so why should I??? I wore my bikini after that day and enjoyed myself. Have confidence and breathe in!

I believe it totally depends on your body shape, and where you carry your weight. It also has to do with self confidence:)

See this person in my picture - she is WAY too fat to be wearing one but she took her kids to the beach and didn't have extra money for a one-piece so she wore what she had already..........those pictures were my motivation.

When I had my baby, I was 195. I was in a 36J and XL bottom. My husband said I still looked better in the bikini than my one piece. I did too.

I'm a bigger girl, closer to 300 than 200, and I wear a bikini.

Every one piece I try on makes me look WAY FATTER than the bikinis do.

I also don't carry most of my weight in my stomach, although I do have a little belly. I don't like the way I look in it, and I have cellulite all over my legs, but what can I do? I have to swim, and I just bought the suit that looked the best on me. Which happened to be a bikini. It has a little skirt thing on the bottom that is really short but manages not to look too frumpy while easing my shape a bit.

I'm still hideous, but hey. I am not wearing it to look good in, I'm wearing the least embarrassing option for working out in.

Anyone can wear a bikini. There is no size requirement you have to meet in order to wear one.
It is also about confidence. Right now, I admit I am quite insecure (though I try not to be), so I probably won't wear one at this point. But anyway, try to be confident, regardless of size!

I've been up to a 16....I am a 12....I will probably be okay wearing a bikini w/ SKIRT at 10 and a bikini at 8....I am 5'7'' w/ now B's (used to be C's) and carry most of my weight in the bottom/upper thighs.

a little pouch is fine. anything past that just looks like your fat.

My mom always used to say that men look at confidence over size, so I never really had a concept of being 'too big" for a bikini but about whether I feel comfortable. I want a bathing suit that makes me feel confident, and if I'm worried about cellulite I'm not going to enjoy my time on the beach, so I usually wear a size 10 two-piece, but not a bikini. :) As far as other people-- I say do what makes you happy! You're not going to bother me one bit.

I second this motion.

Third!

It depends on the proportions and smoothness. Someone can be bigger, but still look sexy as hell. And someone can be skinny, but saggy.

But overall... if you're comfortable in it, and not indecent (nipples, pubes and buttcrack all concealed), that's the only thing that really matters. Anyone who doesn't like it can avert their eyes.

I think when someone wears a bikini that can't quite pull it off (by societal standards).............its sexy. Probably the confidence factor...........wear what you want, its your body.....

I say ROCK THAT BIKINI AT ANY SIZE!! Confidence is sexier than any hot body!!!!

I sometimes wish people would consider what age they should stop wearing bikinis, rather what size.

ive seen 60 yr old women with better bodys than some 20 something year olds....
September 23, 2011 6:41 PM
I don't think you can say what size should be the cut off because different people carry their weight differently.

BTW, I am size 8 and I wouldn't wear a bikini if I had to. No way. No how.

A bikini is made to show off the body.
