I've started becoming very serious about my weight loss starting the 29th of August. I've been walking, doing Insanity and eating less. I still eat every meal, but it's much less. So far I've lost 12 lbs since then. I'm starting to wonder if this is normal? Losing a LOT of weight to start with but then it drops off and you plateau. Since the start of it, I've been walking longer and faster every week and am up to 3.1 miles a day now sitting at around 3.5 mph and am on my 6th day of Insanity. Will I still hit a plateau even if I keep pushing myself? I'd like to know what to expect from other people who have or are looking to loose around 50 lbs or more.

I was a size 5, 4 years ago even after 3 kids. My body is dying to get back to the way I used to be. What's strange is my mother gained all her weight at the same age as I did. She never lost hers though.

It seems diet plays a bigger roll than exercise when it comes to loosing fat. Exercise will help build and tone muscles, but it should not play a big part in your fat loss. You may loose some, but eventually your body will compensate how it works so you don't loose weight as much. To maintain fat loss you need to give your body a reason not to store fat. That means lowering your insulin. In turn, keeping carbs under 100 grams per day should keep you fairly steady in fat loss.

There are many reasons to plateau, not all of which will necessarily apply to you, if you ever do so. Just make sure you're eating your net calories, exercising according to your abilities, drinking plenty of water, sleeping well etc. Ping us back again if the problem actually occurs and we can have a peek at your diary.

Oh BTW, I'm 53 and still managed to shed my excess pounds, though my father never did. I don't think age comes into it.

I've found this too. Eating 'clean' certainly helped me.
