I use a Garmin GPS watch and heart rate monitor when I work out and can track my workouts online at Garmin Connect. My watch automatically uploads my workouts to the site whenever it's within range of the sensor on my computer. It would be very cool if MFP linked up with Garmin and provided an option to automatically upload the user's workout data from Garmin connect to MFP. Like MFP the number of Garmin Connect users seems to be growing very rapidly and while it does have a modest health section it seems to me there would a lot of benefits for both Garmin and MFP to somehow link up and provide complementary services. Just a thought.

DailyMile and RunKeeper do it. It would be awesome if MFP did also. Consider this vote #2 in favor :)

Yes, another vote.

+1 for this; looking to do the same thing.

Is there already a way to do this, or is there a place to make asks / suggestions to MFP?

@AmyW125, I've been using the Garmin Forerunner 410 GPS w/ Heart Rate monitor for a little over 8 months, and it's been great.

Details on it here:
https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=83274

and at REI, here:

I used the app endomondo and loved it but didn't realize it would use up my data package. I've had to leave my iphone at home and use it only when I had wifi. Thank goodness, after tomorrow I can carry it with me again. evidently the gps was the culprit and since I don't have unlimited data used it up in a hurry..

Count me in too for another vote.
I hope the MFP dev team are looking at this topic?
My wife and I both have the Forerunner 610.
Being able to just sync and have it automatically import to our MFP accounts would be excellent.

What a great idea. I will look into the watch idea. Currently I use the free version of Cardio Trainer on my Bionic phone. It is so fun to see where I've been and hear my pace and distance for mini self challenges. Wish it could post to my computer so I could send it to friends and track it on a screen I can easily read.

I was so excited to see that this site was linked to Fitbit now because I have heard great things about the food tracking on here versus the Fitbit site. I was so hoping that MFP was also linked to Garmin Connect! I wear my Fitbit all of the time, but in addition , I use my Garmin F60 for runs and cardio work. It would be so great if there was one site that I could have all of my information sync to! Count me as another vote for linking!

GPS shouldn't use data... Completely different systems. Further to that, I have a tablet that doesn't have any kind of phone or data capability (doesn't even have a SIM card slot) and the GPS still functions fine in it. Most phones should allow you to disable data, too.

Hi. I wrote a proof of concept for this last night. Seems to work although there are areas of clunkiness.

When finished I will put it up on a server provided there is enough interest to cover my costs. Anticipate around 10 euro per year. So if you're interested in a solution at that price post back here. If there is lots of interest the price will reduce of course (as costs are shared more widely).

guess not wink

glad I checked before shelling out for a server contract!

for those that want to lobby on this topic - the 'norm' is for the host site to post to the satellite NOT the other way around. So you would need to lobby Garmin to provide a connector to MFP.

There are some idiosyncracies in the coding of the MFP site that make for a much more difficult integration than others, but it remains possible.
