I've noticed that I get soo tired whenever I eat oatmeal. I've even been told it's something you could eat to help you get to sleep at night. But it's supposed to start your day?? Any ideas why it makes me sooo sleepy??? I use plain oats and cook them with sweetened coconut water. Today I also added a spoon of crunchy peanut butter.

I am assuming the sweetened coconut water has sugar in it (see how clever I am?) So, maybe the sugar is causing your blood sugar to go up and then crash....thus the tiredness? I make mine with plain old water, but also either add some protein to it (peanut butter, almond milk, nuts, or protein powder), or eat some protein along WITH the oatmeal and I can say that it does not make me tired at all!

I don't feel tired after eating oatmeal, quite the opposite effect actually. As the previous poster said maybe it's the sugar from coconut water that's making you feel fatigued. I use almond milk to cook my oatmeal in and add banana to give it flavor. And I top it off with fried egg.

Maybe... And this is me just completely assuming since I am not aware of your eating habits. Maybe you were used to a higher caffeine/sugar intake in the morning that used to get you wired up. Now that you may have cut back on the caffeine and sugar, the oatmeal may not give you enough of the morning boost you were used to before? Again, complete assumptions just throwing out possibilities!
