How many Calories do you burn during preachingbigsmile

Fire and brimstone preaching burns the most.

I guarantee my pastor burns a ton! If you're a pastor, maybe wear a HRM one Sunday and figure it out using that as a guideline?

Depends are you full of the Spirit? I know when I am going I can burn up to 600-800 calories, that includes praise and worship.

the pentacostal/holiness ones that "whoop" and "shout" (dance, not scream loud lol) burn the most

I've searched the net and can's find an answer yet either. I do think that coaching sports may be similar in calorie burn... maybe a little on the lighter side though. I'm probably more active than most coaches. What do you think?

Also, according to Livestrong.com theatrical acting burns 332 Calories per hour, for a 240 lbs man. Preaching requires much of the same energy and posture as acting - so this may be close.

I was wondering the same thing. I am a Pentecostal pastor and have a very energetic and evangelistic preaching style. I don't know the answer to this question, but I've noticed when dieting, if I preach two 30 minute sermons on Sunday and keep my calorie intake the same as any other day, I generally lose 1.5 - 2.0 pounds that day. This is about the same as when I when I use my riding lawn mower for 90 minutes and push mow for 30 minutes. I do up my water intake by about 40 ounces on Sunday and eat light foods if any before I preach. I'm 50 years old, 5 feet 11 inches and weigh 236 right now. If anyone knows a formula to figure this out, let me know. Blessings, Pastor Hayes

One more minister checking in-- although "binding and rebuking" probably involves more aerobic exercise...I think the general preaching and worship leadership would probably be similar to calories burned "teaching, leading, mentoring" so maybe try this site: http://calories-burned.findthedata.org/q/333/30/How-many-calories-do-you-burn-Teaching-leading-counseling-mentoring.

Meh, it's part of your regular life. You don't r e a l l y get extra credit for work.

This thread is over two years old...funny when they pop back up.

Just log actual planned Exercise - not stuff you were already doing.

As for it being part of daily routine/life, I'm not sure....I don't preach every day. Some Sundays once, some 3-4 times. Hmm. Three times today should count for something and that's not including the 1st service where I was part of the congregation but was in on the praise and yes I'm Full Gospel/Assembly of God pentecostal and when the Holy Ghost anointing falls I dance and have no pain. Maybe I will wear the HRM but can't expect the same workout every Sunday. I know it's an old thread but I was thinking about the exact thing this evening..... Preaching is hard work when you get excited about it and move around a lot. I'm no monotone read a page preacher. :)

I found this! How many calories do you burn Teaching, leading, counseling, mentoring?
According to our research engine:
A person weighing 100 pounds burns 102 calories Teaching, leading, counseling, mentoring. A person weighing 125 pounds burns 128 calories Teaching, leading, counseling, mentoring. A 150 lb person will burn approximately 153 calories for 1 hour of Teaching, leading, counseling, mentoring. A person weighing 175 pound burns 179 calories Teaching, leading, counseling, mentoring. A 200 lb person will burn approximately 204 calories for 1 hour of Teaching, leading, counseling, mentoring. A person weighing 225 pounds burns 230 calories Teaching, leading, counseling, mentoring. A person weighing 250 pounds burns 255 calories Teaching, leading, counseling, mentoring.

Ok so I pace, move my arms, and move a lot, and when praising am apt to dance very vigorously so it should be more!
