Topic: jogging calories help, slow jogger

I seem to be having a hard time finding a slow jog calorie burn. I am not walking fast, but actually jogging, but I am a short little person and haven't got my speed up just yet. I use to run 6 miles an hour, but now I am jogging between 3 and and 4 miles per hour. I guess if you can't go 4.5 miles per hour or faster they don't count it as jogging, but I know I am.
I am worried that I am counting too many calories burned because I have been using the slowest I can find, but it isn't right.
Maybe my efforts act the same even though I don't cover the same ground?
Heres to kicking those rocks out of the way.

Hiya...

Its a suggestion brisk walking is more effective than jogging... abt calories am not too sure of.. u can search in google.. but i'd recommend and advice u to brisk walk its a gr8 calorie burner

I saw in your profile you have big palns in terms of running. Why don't you use a heart rate monitor and then enter the exercise manually? That way you will have an exact number. Would that work for you?

i also checked what the difference between 5, 6, 7 miles mper hr in calories is. For 60 minute exercise it is a little more than 200 calories. So if the HRM does not work for you or you don't have one yet you can use that as a rough base. Until you get faster, which will be pretty soon anywaywink

Based on that I would count 200 cal less per hour than 5mph. That translates to 3.3 cal per minute.

The HRM is the better way to go though. You'll need it anyway if you want to seriously train for a marathon.

Thank you so much, I will check on line for one of those thingings, Heart rate monitors. Any good suggestes on those? I have never used one.
