I believe this should be revisited ... if you are carrying 30 lbs Backpacking - the calories burned should be much higher.
Could you look into improving this section of cardiovascular exercise?

I have found web sites that list it as 350- 461 calories per hour. I would think that hiking with a backpack full of gear would burn more than snow shoeing.

I love all the variety of walking, running but this section is lacking in accuracy.

Thanks

What are you entering? Your weight is what?? Use "Hiking" not walking. Or add/create your own Exercise and enter the desired calorie number. You will never get a "correct" number here or on any website for walking on uneven ground at age 57, female, carrying a backpack weighing 30 lbs. Too many variables. How big are the hills? What is the angle of incline? How many hills? How many feet of elevation are you climbing per hour? Do you stop to rest? How many minutes did it take to go up versus go down? Were there rocks to go over? Were you well hydrated?

You need a heart rate monitor with chest strap.
