I think sleep time should be tracked. It is important to have good (and long enough) sleep time to recover and to be in good shape.
Why not add this? Easy to implement and track. |

I agree... could be as simple as the water tracker. Like water, sleep doesn't affect your calorie count directly but it does affect how you feel and therefore what you choose to eat. Tracking and being aware of the fact you didn't get enough sleep might make you better able to resist the carby snack that you're craving as a pick me up.

Yes, I would love this. I have insomnia and tracking would be quite useful.

I too would like to track sleep. There is more and more evidence to show that losing or maintaining weight is linked to adequate sleep. I know for myself, if I don't sleep enough, I want to eat more the next day. (I'm also less likely to exercise!) If this were tracked, I suspect that people would see that they lose more weight and exercise more during the days when they sleep enough.

Wow!... I'm new to MFP and just discovered the message board. I'm surprised to see this topic started in January 2011, and I agree 100% in adding the number hours of sleep. I haven't slept well for the past 3 nights and I've eaten more carbs and sugar this morning than I should have for the entire day! Needless to say, I'm ready for a nap as soon as I sit still for a few minutes...

I've just started using this site and I think adding a sleep tracker would be very beneficial.

Yes Please! I definitely want to track my sleep (the time I went to sleep and the duration) on the same 'page' as the rest of my diary.
It's an important metric to track, one I always had as the first daily entry on my paper journals.

Adding sleep hours as a "measurement" to track is quite easy. Log in to the MFP web site, from the Home page, click Check-in. Here you'll see the familiar page we use to track our weight.
- To the lower left of the table, click the Change Measurements link. - Type the name of the measurement you want to track, like "Sleep hours", click Add Measurement. Now you'll see sleep hours on the check-in table. Also it will be in the Progress reports as well as avail with the mobile app. I've added other things like "Pedometer steps" which helps track that as well. Take care, Bill

Take care, Bill I've seen that answer posted a few times, and frankly it's not helpful. This site already makes you go to far too many places to do things (how many places are there settings?!?). The DAILY dairy should always be on the same page. I don't want to see a graph of my sleep, I want to see it on a day by day basis along with the other daily info.

hbsm, Glad to help.
bsenka, I agree, it would be better to see the check-in page on the main diary page as well as a distinct sleep tracker. They're good suggestions.
