Hello
If like to start by saying this is a wonderful app and obviously one of the most complete out there.
However there is a fundamental flaw that I find most irritating and I know others do too.
Can you please please have an option to turn off the calorie counting component??
I wish to record my food, sometimes my excercise, but definately not calories! I'm not a calorie counter, I disagree with it on do many levels as a form of weight loss. If anything I'm interested in my macros only.
Please please update this app to include this. I can't believe it hasn't been done yet!
So many people feel the same way. I'm actually put off using the app as a result of constantly being told I'm over my calories.
Please take this into consideration
Regards
Maria

I support this request as well for exactly the same reasons as Maria stated.

wait... so many people are put off from using a calorie counting app because it counts calories?

Why sign up to a calorie counting website, if you don't want to count calories then request to turn it off?
How about buying a notebook and a pen and writing everything down??
or raising your calories?
or how about actually ignoring it?

i agree~! it's so helpful and convenient for tracking macros and exercise but the calorie part is iffy

How can you track macros without tracking calories? Because the percentages that you use to set your macro goals are *percentages of total calorie intake*..... if you're tracking macros, then you're counting calories.

Two people. First posts. Asking a calorie counting website to stop counting calories.

I ♥ MFP so hard. This place always makes me laugh.

I feel like we're being trolled, but just in case it isn't.. use an Excel spreadsheet (Google Doc would work too) and get the macro information with Google.

Have you done any research to see if there are other apps that let you track the things you want to keep track of? It there is not, just ignore the calorie count! Why do you care if the app tells you you're over if you're not counting calories to help you lose weight?

My guitar sure would be a lot easier to polish if it didn't have strings on it. They get in the way.

You could probably get a greasemonkey script written to do that.

Or, you could just set your goals higher, if you don't want it to tell you that you've over your calories?

You are aware, I presume, that macros combined (if the data is correct) will equal calories?

I'd like a lot more flexible macro goals, but I merely work around that this aspect doesn't work well for me.

exactly (bit in bold) - you can't count macros without counting calories.

It's a bit like expecting to be able to disable the odometer on your car but still know how many miles to the gallon your car is doing.

Not all of us are counting calories..and the last I knew MFP was a fitness planner, not a calorie counting app????
May 25, 2014 4:24 AM
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Oh wait...you're serious...*ahem*..never mind...

I whole heartedly disagree with your post, as in my opinion calorie counting is one of the only ways to safely and effectively control weight. and has allowed me to successfully lose almost 2 stone,
If you don't want to use this option why not simply ignore it or use another app.smile

it's a calorie counting app. You can record exercise too and it works out the calories from your exercise and it adds the calories to your calorie goal so you know how much extra food you can eat. It's all based on calories. So much so that if you want to record exercise *without* the calories (e.g. because you're doing the TDEE method of calorie counting, where your exercise calories are already included and you don't want them included twice) then you have to log your exercise as a custom exercise with a one calorie burn. Everything on the whole app is all about calories.

but I call troll on the whole thread.... well played drinker

When you search for MFP in the app stores it says "Calorie Counter & Diet Tracker"

It's pretty upfront about what it is.

The whole purpose of this site is to track calories in and calories out.

I'd suggest if you don't want to count calories getting a good old pen and paper.

I'd also like that option. Entering food is a great way to be mindful of what we are putting in our mouths but calorie counting is not always necessary.

Your diary settings. Choose another macro instead.
